Sister sings ‘we’re blessed to have you’ in original song about brother with Down syndrome

A young Irish woman from Carlingford, New South Wales, has written an original song about her brother, who has Down syndrome, and the video has gone viral.

Leah Kirwan became known in 2015 after she filmed a video of herself and her little brother Noah singing a rendition of Sia’s “Titanium.” But her new song is about the blessing that her brother has been to her family:

An excerpt of Leah’s lyrics read:

You are in the hearts of everyone
Your smile is brighter than the sun

You make all the bad days seem great

Accept all love and ignore all hate
We’re blessed to have you here today

You’re amazing in every single way

Live your life the way you choose
And just know we’re all so proud of you

According to the Charlotte Lozier Institute, “it is estimated that abortion following a prenatal diagnosis of DS results in a 30% reduction in overall DS births.” Lozier also notes that “a 2012 publication in Prenatal Diagnosis, their research calculated a weighted mean across the U.S. of a 67% termination rate following prenatal diagnosis” of Down syndrome.
