WATCH: Saved from abortion, Christina Bennett notes the power of saying yes to God
Christina Bennett, a pro-life missionary and activist who was spared from abortion, spoke to attendees of Live Action's Young Leaders Summit about the power of saying yes, even in situations that feel impossible.
Bennett's mother was in an abusive relationship when she became pregnant; Bennett's father pushed for an abortion.
While at the hospital, a counselor told Bennett's mother abortion was her best option.
A janitor asked her if she wanted to keep the baby, and Bennett's mother answered 'yes.'
That "yes" allowed Bennett to survive, and she encouraged the attendees to also have the strength to say yes.

Bennett began her speech by talking about the power of the word "yes," and said it opens up doors to opportunity. In her case, it was the word "yes" that saved her life.
"My mother got pregnant with me and she was in a toxic, abusive, unhealthy relationship," she said. "My father pressured her and coerced her to get an abortion. She went to her mentor at church and unfortunately her mentor said, 'if you come back to this church, I will be the first person to put my foot in the door and not let you in.'"
With that much pressure on her, Bennett's mother spoke to a counselor, who told her abortion was her best option. So she made an appointment to get an abortion.
"They put her in a white robe and they told her to just wait, wait for the abortion doctor to call her in and for her to end my life," she said. "And in that moment, as she was waiting in the hallway, there was an African American janitor who saw her, and she walked up to her, and she lifted up her chin, and she looked her in the eyes, and said, 'Do you want to have this baby?' And I think you can guess what my mom said. She said yes."
Even though she had already paid, and the abortionist was furious, Bennett's mother left the abortion facility, saving Bennett's life.
Bennett then moved on to the 'yes' she gave God, and her husband's 'yes' as well.
"I said yes to living out the calling that God had for me. And as I've done that over the years, after finding out my story, as I've been a pro-life advocate for over 20 years, I've been speaking about the value of preborn human lives and fighting for women and mothers and children.
And at the beginning of the pandemic, I was going to speak at a pregnancy center banquet. It was like March 2020. I was on a plane to California, because I'm from Connecticut. And I'm on the plane, and me and my husband at this time in our lives, we were licensed to be foster parents, but we had not got a match. So we would get matched and they would say no. And so we were just waiting. And I'm on the plane, really afraid I'm going to get COVID. But I'm also watching a movie about foster care and I'm crying my eyes out. And I'm like, God, I just, I don't know when you're going to match me with a child, but (4:41) I just really want you to, and I'm like, begging the Lord. And at that time, my husband is home in Connecticut and he gets a call. He gets a call from DCF, the Department of Children and Families.
And they say this to him: we have a baby boy. It's a newborn boy. Would you take him today? And my husband says, 'well, I can't talk to my wife because she's on a plane, but I know what she would say. So yes.'"
That "yes" led to Bennett's son Isaiah after the couple's struggling with infertility and miscarriage. Attendees were told to remember the power of saying yes, and what it had done in Bennett's life.
"My mom said yes when the janitor, who she believes was an angel, said, 'Do you want to have this baby?' My mom said yes," she said. "Then I grew up. I said yes to God. I grew up. I said yes to my husband. And then he said yes to our son."
Bennett urged attendees to listen to what God wants of them, no matter how big or small, concluding, "Whatever it is, when God tells you, I want you to give your — say it with me! — yes."
