Planned Parenthood starts dispensing abortion pills in Wichita, Kansas
Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri’s Wichita location has become the second abortion provider in the city following its decision to begin offering abortion pills.
Planned Parenthood spokeswoman Bonyen Lee-Gilmore called it “a very proud moment for Planned Parenthood to be able to say, ‘We’ve done it. We’ve expanded that access. We’ve given women one more option when they are making this decision.”
However, Operation Rescue’s Cheryl Sullenger lamented the news, saying “It is a little disappointing for us because at one point there were no active abortion centers in Wichita for like four years – then South Wind opened and then this.” Operation Rescue was the first to publicized the development.

Operation Rescue has vowed to “use every legal option available to us to make sure Planned Parenthood halts abortions in Wichita,” and Sullenger also notes they made a call to the facility for information about the abortion pills, “but the receptionist could not pronounce the names of the either of the two drugs, Mifeprex and misoprostol.”
At the website AbortionProcedures.com, former abortionist Dr. Anthony Levatino explains what happens during a chemical abortion using abortion pills:
Following the 2009 murder of late-term abortionist George Tiller there were no abortion facilities in Wichita. In 2013, Tiller colleague Julie Burkhart changed that by opening South Wind Women’s Center. There are now a total of four centers providing abortions in the state. By contrast, there are 46 pregnancy resource centers.
