Planned Parenthood drops lawsuit against Trump administration over Medicaid funds
Planned Parenthood has dropped its lawsuit against the Trump administration over the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act," which cut off Medicaid dollars from abortion providers. This development marks the end of a months-long legal battle between the abortion giant and the Trump administration over the provision of taxpayer-funded Medicaid reimbursements to abortion organizations.
Planned Parenthood has dismissed its federal lawsuit against the Trump administration, which cut off Medicaid funding from abortion providers.
The abortion corporation claimed that the legal challenge was not helping its clients.
The decision comes after the First Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in December that the federal defunding could stand.
The federal defunding is temporary, as is set to expire on July 4, 2026.
Late last Friday, Planned Parenthood moved to voluntarily dismiss its federal lawsuit against Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., claiming the legal challenge was not helping its clients.
“The goal of this lawsuit has always been to help Planned Parenthood patients get the care they deserve from their trusted provider. Based on the 1st Circuit’s decision, it is clear that this lawsuit is no longer the best way to accomplish that goal,” the abortion giant stated.
A three-judge panel of the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals suspended the lower-court injunction that had blocked the enforcement of the law last December, which prompted Planned Parenthood to make its decision to drop the lawsuit.
As previously reported by Live Action News, Planned Parenthood initially filed a lawsuit against Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. after President Trump signed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act on July 4, 2025.
The Act states that family planning or reproductive health organizations that received more than $800,000 in Medicaid funds in 2023 and commit abortions could not receive that Medicaid funding for one year, unless they stop committing elective induced abortions. As Planned Parenthood is not willing to stop committing abortions, which bring the corporation more than $200M in estimated annual revenue, Planned Parenthood filed a lawsuit in a Boston federal court in July, immediately after the President signed the bill.
Judge Indira Talwani issued a temporary restraining order against the defunding just hours after Planned Parenthood filed its lawsuit. A federal appeals court lifted that restraining order, allowing the law to be enforced. Yet, another lawsuit filed by 22 Democratic states and D.C. also attempted to block the bill, and Talwani placed a temporary injunction on the defunding provision again.
In December, a three-judge panel of the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals suspended the lower-court injunction that had blocked the enforcement of the law.
The One Big Beautiful Bill Act is in effect until July 4 of this year.
Planned Parenthood has closed over 50 facilities in 2025, claiming a lack of funds due to the Medicaid cuts. However, Planned Parenthood has shifted its strategy, expanding ‘virtual health centers’ while closing brick-and-mortar facilities. Planned Parenthood continues to commit surgical abortions, and recklessly sells the abortion pill, endangering the lives of countless preborn babies and their mothers.
In the year 2023-24 alone, Planned Parenthood killed 402,230 preborn children. That is an unprecedented number of lives snuffed out by the abortion organization. During that year, Planned Parenthood held 40% of the abortion market share, killing an average of 1,102 preborn human beings daily by abortion — nearly 46 per hour, and one every 78 seconds.
While the defunding measure represents a historic victory for the pro-life movement, the measure is temporary, and the pro-life movement must continue to push Congress and the Trump administration to fully defund Planned Parenthood.
