An estimated 70+ abortion pill pharmacies have been certified and are now dispensing the abortion pill since the erosion of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) REMS safety requirements for the abortion pill mifepristone (200mg).
Key Takeaways:
- Large retail abortion pill pharmacies Walgreens and CVS have become partners with Big Abortion, announcing that they finalized the pharmacy dispensing certification process last year. They recently expanded dispensing of abortion pills to more states.
- University and hospital pharmacies — as well as dozens of locally-owned pharmacies — are also becoming certified.
- Others are still holding the line against dispensing the abortion pill, such as Costco Wholesale, Walmart, and Albertsons, which “currently do not offer the medicine,” as of August 2025. Kroger and Sam’s Club stated in late 2024 that their pharmacies also were not selling the abortion pill mifepristone and that any appearance to the contrary was due to a third-party error.
- There is still a growing concern regarding stability of abortion drugs sent through the mail.
The Backstory:
The abortion pill was approved by the FDA in 2000 as mifepristone (Mifeprex) and is administered in a 200-milligram dosage for abortions. In April of 2021, under the guise of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Biden FDA expanded the REMS and temporarily enabled the limited mail-order pharmacy distribution of mifepristone (the abortion pill).
In December 2021, the Biden FDA further weakened the REMS by eliminating the in-person dispensing requirement and enabling the abortion pill to be permanently shipped by mail. Then, in January 2023, the Biden FDA announced it would also allow retail pharmacies to dispense the drug.
The two manufacturers of the abortion pill are Danco Laboratories (the original manufacturer set up by the Population Council, which brought the drug into the US and conducted the clinical trials) and GenBioPro (GBP; the generic abortion pill maker which received FDA approval in 2019 and by 2021 claimed to hold a significant share of the abortion pill market).
Both companies were seeded with investment dollars from the pro-abortion David and Lucile Packard Foundation, among others.
The Pharmacies:
Pharmacies dispensing the abortion pill have the option of remaining anonymous or being named publicly.
Danco-certified pharmacies
Danco’s website publishes a shorter list of certified pharmacies than the generic manufacturer GBP, acknowledging that “Not all certified pharmacies dispensing MIFEPREX have elected to be listed here.”
In 2023, Danco told POLITICO it had certified “many of the same pharmacies as GenBioPro as well as others, but is not making its directory public until it has the pharmacy’s permission.”
Danco’s list of publicly named pharmacies include:
- Denver Health Discharge Pharmacy — operates 10 pharmacy locations in or around Denver, CO
- Pavilion Pharmacy UC Davis — Sacramento, CA
- Pucci’s Pharmacy — owned by Dr. Clint Hopkins and Joel Hockman (Sacramento, CA)
- Schraft’s — “fertility pharmacy” founded by Adam Hait (Cedar Knolls, NJ)
- Southwest Health Systems Pharmacy — Cortez, CO
- T&T Pharmacy — Los Angeles, CA
Danco’s website also certified Walgreens pharmacies in “multiple states” as well as CVS pharmacies in “CA, CO, CT, DC, DE, HI, IL, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, NH, NJ, NV, NM, NY, OR, PA, RI, VA, VT, WA.”

GenBioPro-certified pharmacies
In 2023, GenBioPro began publishing the names of certified retail pharmacies (including university and independent hospital pharmacies) who agreed to be publicly named. In addition, multiple mail-order pharmacies had already begun to dispense the abortion pill.
“We have and will continue to make Mifeprex available to eligible medical providers in all 50 states… we are distributing to certified retail sites of care in states where it is consistent with the law,” GBP wrote in March 2023.
- October 2023: GBP’s website revealed it had certified 19 pharmacies in multiple states, adding two more by December of that year.
- July 2024: GBP added an additional 10 pharmacies, including some in Nevada and New York.
- December 2024: GBP approved 14 additional pharmacies, including some in Connecticut and Michigan.
- March 2025: Nine additional pharmacies were added, including some in Illinois, Kansas, and New Jersey.
- August 20, 2025: GBP added four more pharmacies, including one in Massachusetts and the online pharmacy ArloRX.
To date, GBP has certified over 60 pharmacies to dispense generic abortion pills across the U.S.
“Certified pharmacies” who agreed to be publicly published on GenBioPro’s website include two in Texas, a state with laws protecting preborn children from abortion which allows for civil remedies through a private-enforcement provision of the Texas Heartbeat law:
- Halowells Pharmacy — 2522 Westminster St. (Pearland, TX)
- Nature Elements Pharmacy — 12946 Dairy Ashford Rd., Ste. 460 (Sugar Land, TX)
Others include:
- Auburn Pharmacy and Compounding (Bakersfield, CA) — points to the GNP network from its Facebook page.
- Fairmont Pharmacy (Phoenix, AZ)
- Globe Drug Store (Brooklyn, NY)
- Haller’s Pharmacy and Medical Supply (Fremont, CA) — a community pharmacy, part of Amerisource Bergen’s (recently renamed Cencora) Good Neighbor Pharmacy
- Jim’s Pharmacy & Home Health (Port Angeles, WA) — locally owned and operated pharmacy
- Pucci’s Pharmacy (Sacramento, CA)
- SMP Pharmacy Mid-Atlantic (Rockville, MD) — branches in FL and CA; claims to “know the ins and outs of the fertility process,” adding that its team is “dedicated to providing every patient with the resources and support they need to start their journey.”
- St. Mary’s Pharmacy (Fresno, CA) — member of the Medicine Shoppe family of pharmacy chains
- Sweetgrass Pharmacy and Compounding (Mt. Pleasant, SC) — part of the Amerisource Bergen (Cencora) Good Neighbor Pharmacy network
- Wellspring Pharmacy (Oakland, CA) — headed by Andrew Beyers and supported by Thao Ho
Not yet on GBP’s website is the recently-certified Condo Pharmacy in Plattsburgh, NY. Owner Steve Moore told Politico he hasn’t yet received backlash and is happy to “help people get the medication they need when they need it.”

GBP has also certified CVS pharmacies in “California, Colorado, Connecticut, DC, Delaware, Hawai’i, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, Vermont, and Washington.”
Hospital and University Pharmacies
University and independent hospital pharmacies have also been certified by the generic abortion pill maker, including:
- Genesee Campus Apothecary — “in-house pharmacy” at Unity Specialty Hospital (Rochester, NY)
- Meriter Outpatient Pharmacy — located in the lobby of UnityPoint Health Hospital (Madison, WI), ironically the “home of Wisconsin’s largest birthing center.”
- Rush University Professional Office Building Pharmacy (Chicago, IL)
- University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) Pharmacy at Redwood (Baltimore, MD)
- USC Medical Plaza Pharmacy — Keck Medical Center, University of Southern California (USC) (Los Angeles, CA)
Previously on the public GBP list but now removed are Temple University Hospital Outpatient Pharmacy (Philadelphia, PA) and University of Rochester Medical Center (UR) Specialty Pharmacy (Rochester, NY).
GenBioPro-Certified Mail-Order Pharmacies (January 2023)
- American Mail Order Pharmacy (AMOP)
- Honeybee Health (founded in 2017 by Peter Wang and Dr. Jessica Nouhavandi)
2025: GBP added ArloRx (Arlo Health, Inc.) to its mail-order list. Arlo claims to be “headquartered in the United States,” but Dun and Bradstreet revealed the corporate name Arlo Health, Inc is headquartered in Ontario, Canada, led by Madison Wright.
What’s Happening:
Already, efforts are underway to move beyond pharmacy dispensing of the abortion pill to pharmacy prescribing of the abortion pill.
Last year, Washington state announced a pilot program allowing pharmacists to prescribe as well as dispense abortion pills — without women seeing a doctor first.
Washington isn’t alone. NPR previously stated:
A bill pending in the New York State Assembly would grant pharmacists the authority to provide abortion medications under a “standing order” or non-patient specific prescription — the same way pharmacists administer vaccines and dispense naloxone, the opioid overdose reversal drug.
And in California, researchers at the University of California, San Diego recently reported the results of a proof-of-concept pilot study in which a pair of pharmacists safely and effectively provided medication abortions under the study protocol.
The Bottom Line:
While getting the abortion pill into pharmacy chains and onto pharmacy shelves has been a long-held strategy of Big Abortion, Live Action News has previously detailed multiple concerns surrounding pharmacy dispensing, such as:
- Possible lack of knowledge by pharmacists to properly advise women of potential risks associated with abortion-inducing drugs
- Possible lack of understanding surrounding the mandatory reporting of child sexual abuse
It is important to note that the Federal Comstock Act prohibits the mailing of abortion inducing drugs anywhere in the United States.
