NFL's Shaun Alexander announces he and wife are expecting 14th child

Shaun Alexander, legendary running back for the NFL's Seattle Seahawks, announced that he and his wife, Valerie, are expecting their 14th child.

Key Takeaways:

  • Shaun Alexander is expected to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame one day, and has set numerous records, including as the all-time leading rusher for the Seahawks. He is in the top 10 for rushes for the NFL overall.

  • He and Valerie have 10 daughters and three sons; one of their daughters, Torah, passed away in 2017, just a few months after being born.

  • In a media appearance on September 25, he announced that he and his wife are expecting another baby.

The Details:

In an appearance on the "Up and Adams Show" with host Kay Adams on Thursday, Alexander broke the news. "We're just now starting to tell people, but No. 14 is in the belly," he said, grinning.

Alexander joked about former quarterback Philip Rivers, who has 10 children. "Philip Rivers, get to work. That's what I want to say," Adams said. "Philip steals headlines with 10. You only have 10 children, Philip. Get a grip. We should take his Hall of Fame away and give it to you."

Alexander laughed and replied, "Yeah, I want my kids to see the Hall of Fame. Am I asking too much?"

Shaun and Valerie married in 2002 and have been openly devout Christians, naming all of their children to reflect their faith. They founded the Harvest Covenant together, a faith-based educational and athletic program for homeschooled students, with the goal of enriching children through both education and faith, as well as providing athletic opportunities to homeschool families.

Zoom In:

In a previous interview with CBN, Alexander made it clear that his faith is most important to him, and drives the decisions that he makes in life.

“I honestly believe that I’m supposed to do everything that I can do to the best of my ability, and God takes care of the rest,” he said. “How can you worry if your Father’s taking care of everything? The God that created the world says, ‘I got you; just give Me the best you got.’”

He said he believes it is his job to "be a light" and to "chas[e] after Christ, finding new ways to get closer to Him. I want to do what children of God do, and that’s go all out for Christ.” He added, “[There] is only one way to do it, and that’s the way the Bible says it."
