New Jersey budget includes $52M for abortion, despite deficit
New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill delivered her first budget on Monday, in which she included a whopping $52 million to expand abortion despite the state facing a deficit.
Governor Mikie Sherrill's new budget includes $52 million for abortion in the state.
New Jersey Right to Life reports that the state is facing a $3 billion deficit.
New Jersey is one of the nation's most pro-abortion states, with abortion allowed through all nine months of pregnancy.
New Jersey Right to Life (NJRTL) reports that Sherrill's budget continues former governor Phil Murphy's practice of prioritizing funds for "family planning and reproductive health access," to the tune of $52 million. $30 million of that is earmarked for abortion facilities in every county to provide 'free' abortions, while the remaining $22 million goes toward the state's Reproductive Health Access Fund, which is focused on expanding abortion in the state.

The promotion of abortion appears to be a priority for Sherrill, even though the state is facing a $3 billion deficit, which NJRTL says is "caused by rising Medicaid costs, pension obligations, and out-of-control spending. Families are already crushed by sky-high property taxes and record-high living costs."
“Instead of focusing on education, infrastructure, and fiscal responsibility, Governor Sherrill is prioritizing funding abortion providers who end the lives of innocent unborn children and exploit women at a very vulnerable time in their lives, rather than providing the real help, counseling, and support that both mothers and babies desperately need,” said Marie Tasy, Executive Director of NJRTL.
New Jersey has some of the most permissive abortion laws in the nation, with the killing of preborn children allowed through all nine months of pregnancy. Despite this, the state continues to funnel money into ways to expand and promote abortion.
On Christmas Eve, Sherrill's predecessor, Murphy, announced that he would be spending over $22 million through the Reproductive Health Access Fund (RHAF) to promote abortion, in addition to the $50 million earmarked in a previous budget. In 2025, the state also continued a campaign against pregnancy resource centers, promoted pro-abortion billboards in pro-life states, and boasted of stockpiling abortion pills for the killing of preborn children.
Sherrill appears ready and willing to continue the state's abortion promotion. Prior to her election, she was endorsed by the Planned Parenthood Action Fund of New Jersey, which called her "a champion for reproductive health and rights."
State budgets should prioritize the safety and well-being of citizens — not the killing of the youngest and most innocent among us.
