How one mom saved her baby's life when they were pushed from a balcony
A woman who died after being pushed from a 15th-floor balcony in New York City while holding her baby saved her daughter's life by wrapped her body around her baby.
23-year-old Nathaly Ramirez was holding her eight-month-old daughter when she was pushed from a 15th-floor balcony.
Ramirez wrapped her body around her baby; while she died, her daughter survived.
31-year-old Angel Carrasco has been arrested and charged Ramirez' murder, as well as the attempted murder of the baby girl.
Nathaly Ramirez, 23, and her eight-month-old baby girl, were found on the pavement in a courtyard behind the Allerville Arms in the Bronx earlier this week. Residents had called police after hearing shouting. At the time, police said Ramirez' injuries were "consistent with a fall from an elevated position." It was later confirmed she had been pushed from a 15th-floor balcony while holding her daughter.
Heartbreakingly, that is exactly how she was found: still holding her daughter.
It is believed that the last thing she did before dying was try to save her baby. “In the last moment of her life she was protecting her daughter,” Dominique Rosado, who had been friends with Ramirez, told the New York Post. “That’s what it means to be a mother. She was a good mother."

FOX 5 New York's Jessica Formoso reported that Ramirez wrapped her arms around her baby girl as they fell, successfully protecting her. While the baby was critically injured, she is reportedly in stable condition now.
"I was sleeping and I heard a bunch of noise, dogs barking and yelling, 'Oh my god, please don't do this. Look at my baby's face,'" one resident said.
In front of the apartment building, a photo of Ramirez was hung up, with neighbors leaving flowers and lighting candles as a memorial to her.
Police quickly narrowed in on 31-year-old Angel Carrasco as a potential suspect, and though he had gone into hiding, one of his friends went to the police to turn him in. He has since been arrested and charged with Ramirez' murder, as well as attempted murder, manslaughter, attempted manslaughter, and assault.
In a chilling video, he was seen smiling for cameras as he was led away by police in handcuffs.

There was allegedly a history of domestic violence between Carrasco and Ramirez, and she was seemingly trying to hide from him in the apartment. He had previously been charged with slapping her, and for burglary after he tried to enter her apartment in an effort to find her.

"It happened in January — he was kicking the door down trying to get into the apartment," a neighbor named Mike said. "I'm not even sure what else can be done but something that will shine a light on the drastic uptick in domestic violence situations especially for, you know, women out here — women like her."
"This horrific tragedy weighs heavily on every team member who worked this case,” U.S. Marshal Ricky J. Patel said in a statement. “We owed it to the brave mother who gave her life to save her child from a vicious individual.
