‘Running for two’: Mom wins half-marathon while 23 weeks pregnant

An Indiana woman proved that pregnancy can’t slow her down, coming in first place in the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon in Indianapolis on May 4 — running while 23 weeks pregnant.

Anna Rohrer, 27, completed the 13.1 mile half-marathon in 1 hour, 15 minutes, and 18 seconds.

According to WNDU, Rohrer is no stranger to winning competitions; while in college at the University of Notre Dame, she was a first-team Cross Country All-American, a two-time indoor track first-team All-American, and a three-time outdoor track All-American. Rohrer was also an Atlantic Coast Conference cross country champion in 2016 and won ACC titles in the 5,000-meter in 2017 and was the 10,000-meter outdoor champion in 2017 and 2019. This win, though, was a new notch in her belt, as she outpaced about 8,000 other runners to take home the victory.

“I didn’t think I’d run quite the same time last year, but you know, whatever God wills is gonna happen on the day,” she said of the win.

Rohrer announced her pregnancy — and her baby’s “half-marathon debut” — in an Instagram post on April 2. “Be on the lookout for baby’s half marathon debut in May where I’ll be running for two this year,” she wrote.

She also detailed the win on Instagram.

“Women have superpowers,” she wrote.

“I can’t say I was expecting to win yesterday, but the Lord must have willed it! It’s been a fun and strange training block trying to gauge how fast I can run while getting into better shape and simultaneously growing a whole human…”

She continued: “While this was far off of my PR, it will go down as one of my favorite races because it was an opportunity to really share some of the gifts I’ve been given. I’ll always love running and competing, but it can’t even compare to the gift of motherhood.”

Rohrer told WTHR this is her first child.
