Missouri man faces two first-degree murder charges for killing pregnant wife

A Missouri man has been charged with two murders after he allegedly killed his pregnant estranged wife and their preborn child. The baby initially survived the attack but died eight days later.

Key Takeaways:

  • Sidney Wilson V of Missouri is facing two charges of first-degree murder in the shooting death of his wife, Reagan, and preborn child, Silas.

  • After the shooting, doctors were able to deliver Silas and give him medical attention, but he died eight days later.

  • Homicide remains a leading cause of death of pregnant women.

The Details:

On June 5, 25-year-old Sidney Wilson V of Stoutland, Missouri, reportedly received a Facebook message telling him to “stay away” from his estranged wife, 21-year-old Reagan Wilson. Upset at the message, Sidney then allegedly drove to Reagan’s home in Lebanon, Missouri, and shot her.

Reagan, who was pregnant and “near term,” was pronounced dead shortly after. Her baby, Silas, was delivered and received medical care, but died eight days later on June 13 due to an undisclosed condition “caused by a lack of blood flow and oxygen to the brain, often before or shortly after death.”

According to the couple’s relatives, they had been estranged since December 2024.

“Our entire team mourns the loss of this young mother and child. Our team and our partners are disgusted by this loss of life and will relentlessly pursue justice for Reagan and her child,” Lebanon Police Chief Jerry Harrison said in a statement.

The Bottom Line:

Homicide is a leading cause of death for pregnant women, exceeding all the leading health-related causes of maternal mortality. According to research published by the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine in January 2025, between 2005 and 2022, of 20,421 maternal deaths, 1,407 were due to homicide. Many of these homicides are domestic violence situations.
