Jon Bon Jovi adores new, adopted granddaughter: 'Immediately becomes your grandchild'

Bon Jovi frontman Jon Bon Jovi is enjoying his new role as grandfather since his son Jake Bongiovi and daughter-in-law Millie Bobby Brown welcomed a daughter via adoption over the summer.

Key Takeaways:

  • Jon Bon Jovi appeared on the Dumb Blonde podcast, where he shared his joy at becoming a grandfather.

  • His son Jake and daughter-in-law, actress Millie Bobby Brown, adopted a baby girl in August.

  • Bon Jovi said as soon as he and his wife met the baby girl, she was 'immediately their grandchild.'

The Details:

In an interview with Bunnio XO on her Dumb Blonde podcast, Bon Jovi said that things have been "crazy, but great, wonderful" since his son and daughter-in-law adopted a baby girl in August.

"They adopted a girl, and we met the baby, obviously, and immediately it becomes your grandchild, your baby," he said. "It's beautiful. I want to see pictures, like, every other day. I'm that pain in the butt guy already. It's cool."

In an added blessing for Bon Jovi and his wife Dorothea, their son Jesse and his wife are expecting a baby soon as well.

In the interview, Bon Jovi also praised Jake and Millie, who have received some criticism for getting married and welcoming a child in their early 20s.

"They got married very young, but we blessed it because we get it," he said. "They're sort of mature beyond their years. She comes from a family where her parents are still together, and they married very young. Her and Jake fell in love, and we thought, 'Okay, we'll support this.' And it's working out."

Why It Matters:

Several Reddit users commented that it was "refreshing" to see a celebrity couple adopt a baby rather than have a child through surrogacy, which seems to be the popular route in the last few years.

While abortion advocates often paint adoption as an option worse than abortion, adoption is a life-affirming solution to a difficult circumstance. When parents are unable to care for a child, they can select parents to raise their baby, often through open adoption. While being raised by married, biological parents is the best scenario for children, sometimes that simply isn't possible.

There is a misconception that children placed for adoption at birth go to foster care, but this is not true.

Pregnant women can choose their baby's adoptive family during pregnancy; then, shortly after birth, that baby is placed into the arms of the permanent adoptive family.

There are more couples waiting to adopt a newborn than there are newborns in need of adoptive families, which means biological parents can find the exact adoption situation that they feel is best. Abortion should never even be a consideration.

The Bottom Line:

While adoption is not the "ideal" situation for a child, it is a life-giving, life-affirming option. It is encouraging and upliftingto see those in the public eye discussing how much they love their adopted family members.
