TEARJERKER: Grandmother's beautiful reaction to scared teen's shock delivery

A 16-year-old girl gave birth on Thanksgiving Day but told her mother the baby had been left on their front porch by a stranger. When the truth came out, her mother reacted in the most beautiful way.

Key Takeaways:

  • Peyton Peoples said she didn't know she was pregnant until she went into labor.

  • Terrified and afraid of adding to her mother's "burden," she claimed to have found the baby on the front porch.

  • At the hospital, she admitted to being the mother.

  • Her mother, Kira Peoples, responded by saying her grandchild is a blessing, vowing to help her daughter.

The Details:

Peyton's story originally made headlines when she claimed a baby had been left on her porch on Thanksgiving Day. Her mother, Kira, was at another family member's home, and was shocked to come home and find a baby there.

"Why my porch? That's what I kept asking — 'why my porch?'" Kira said, according to Fox 2 News Detroit. She believed her daughter's original story, and began to spread the word. She also called 911 to report the abandoned baby.

But Detroit police took Peyton to Children's Hospital, wanting to rule her out as the possible mother, and that's when the truth came out. She admitted that she was the baby's mother, and that she hadn't been aware that she was pregnant.

"I was laying in bed, my water had broke, and I went in the bathroom, and I had Paxton," she said. "Three pushes into the toilet and there he was."

Yet she didn't hide the truth about baby Paxton because she was afraid her mother would be angry; she felt guilty about adding to her mother's stresses and burdens.

"It's hard," she said of her mother, who is a single parent. "It was already hard for her to raise us, and that just added another burden on her back, and I didn't want to do that."

Zoom In:

Yet her mother's reply was filled with nothing but love and compassion. "A baby is always a blessing," she said.

The family has faced challenges; Peyton's father was shot and killed in a robbery seven months earlier, leaving Kira to raise four children on her own. Yet she didn't hesitate to promise to be there for her daughter.

Her only concern in the situation was that Payton went through labor and delivery alone. "It's just that my baby went through by herself," she said.

But instead of being angry at the situation, Kira sprang into action.

"We're going to figure it out. I'm going to keep going to work," Kira said. "[Payton]'s going back to school. I'm going to work midnights, and she's going to go to school during the day, and we'll switch off."

The Bottom Line:

A GoFundMe page has been set up to support the new family, and has already raised over $29,000.

"We are now both single moms trying to navigate a very unexpected and emotional time but we are struggling with the sudden financial and personal challenges that come with this situation," Kira wrote. "Thank you for reading, for understanding, and for helping us in this incredibly difficult moment. Your kindness truly makes a difference."

In a free vote held in Parliament on Tuesday, MP's are considering two separate amendments to the Crime and Policing Bill, brought forward by Labour MPs Tonia Antoniazzi and Stella Creasey, which both seek to decriminalise abortion in England and Wales. Although abortion is allowed up to 24 weeks under certain criteria laid out in the 1967 Abortion Act, women can still be prosecuted for terminating pregnancies under the Victorian-era 'Offences Against the Person Act' which makes it a crime for a woman to "procure her own miscarriage."
