Actor Chris Pratt and wife welcome new baby: ‘Children are a heritage from the Lord’

Actor Chris Pratt and his wife, Katherine Schwarzenegger (daughter of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver), have welcomed a baby girl. An Instagram post from Pratt announced that their daughter, Lyla Maria, was born Monday, and that both mom and baby were happy and healthy. “We are beyond thrilled to announce the birth of our daughter, Lyla Maria Schwarzenegger Pratt,” he wrote. “We couldn’t be happier. Both mom and baby are doing great. We are extremely blessed. Love Katherine and Chris.”

Pratt, an outspoken Christian, also included two Bible verses with the announcement. Quoting Psalm 126:3, he wrote, “The LORD has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.” He then quoted the verses Psalm 127:3-4, which are pro-child and pro-life:

Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.

Many celebrities flooded the comments with congratulations for the couple. Zoe Saldana and Karen Gillan, who both starred with Pratt in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films, shared their excitement, with Saldana writing, “May your path be blessed with grace and joy always! we are so happy for you guys! Sending you so much Love.”

Zachary Levi, who also made appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, wrote, “Praise, amen, and hallelujah!!!”

Pratt shares a son, Jack, with his ex-wife, Anna Faris. Jack was born nine weeks premature, and had to spend a month in the NICU. Pratt told People that the experience helped strengthen his faith. “We were scared for a long time,” he said. “We prayed a lot.”

And even when things looked scary, Pratt said Jack’s birth was still beautiful for them. “It restored my faith in God, not that it needed to be restored, but it really redefined it,” he explained. “The baby was so beautiful to us, and I look back at the photos of him and it must have been jarring for other people to come in and see him, but to us he was so beautiful and perfect.”
