Alexa PenaVega felt ‘supernatural peace’ after stillbirth: ‘God was just telling us… I am here for you’
Actors Carlos and Alexa PenaVega have spoken out about the loss of their baby girl Indy, who was stillborn in April.
On her Instagram account, through tears, Alexa said, “We have been so thankful reading all of your messages of support. All the prayers you guys have prayed, we have felt them. … The power of prayer is so real. … This season obviously is the most tragic thing that we’ve ever had to go through as a family. … God has met us in this place between pain and peace.”
She added, “This season, I have learned so much about pain with purpose. Losing Indy was very hard and then right after losing her, my health declined a lot and nobody could figure out what was wrong. And it was a very hard season for all of us to navigate. But I don’t think I’ve ever surrendered this way to God in my life. … Indy’s little life has transformed us completely. Our family has never been stronger. My faith has never been strong. My marriage has never been stronger. Her life was so purposeful in just that short little bit that we had with her. … While she may not have taken a breath here on earth, she didn’t go without purpose.”
She and Carlos also spoke to Fox News Digital, sharing that their faith helped them get through the loss of Indy. Carlos spoke about how difficult it was for him as a husband and father to watch his wife deal with medical issues while dealing with the grief over losing Indy.
“I think as a husband and as the leader of the household, you know, I had to kind of remain strong for the family. And I definitely had some weak moments there,” he said.
After Alexa reassured her husband that he is “not weak,” he said that he had “some very emotional moments,” adding, “I think I normally don’t allow myself to go there. And because I did, it actually brought us a lot closer. And, you know, grieving is OK. Like, you know, I think as men we try and stay tough.”
He said a moment in the healing process came when his wife and a friend called and left him a voicemail of them singing a worship song. “And just listening to the words … somebody would sit there for five minutes and sing this song for me. And I was literally, like, weeping, and I’ll never forget that moment,” he said.
He added, “It’s hard to love people. Sometimes it’s hard to love God. I guess it’s like, why, why, why? But when can you just let go and just sit there and surrender and let the Holy Spirit take over and just let it … that moment for me will always, always be there forever. So it’s OK to let go and let God.”
Alexa agreed that it is God who is helping them get through. “I don’t know how people do it without God because we can’t explain it other than it was like supernatural peace that didn’t make sense,” she said. “It doesn’t make sense. It’s beyond understanding. Because after it all happened, obviously we were devastated. It was heartbreaking. And yet we felt like God was just telling us, ‘Hey, I am so sorry you had to go through this, but I am here for you, and I’m going to make a way for you.'”
She added, “Just because the enemy throws fiery arrows at you doesn’t mean that God isn’t going to make a way. Like those arrows are still going to come at you, but he’s going to provide shelter. He’s going to help you with some shields. He’s going to get you through the seasons. And He got us through that season.”
In November 2023, the couple shared they were expecting their fourth child, Indy. They were already parents to sons Ocean and Kingston, and daughter Rio. Tragically, on April 15, 2024, the couple announced the heartbreaking loss of baby Indy.
“We can’t understand why things like this happen and we may never get those answers. Indy Rex PenaVega, you completely changed our world. You moved us to a new place. You gave us the community we have been longing for,” they said at the time. “We love you can’t wait to see how many other lives you change.”
