Live Action Slams House Passage of ACA Subsidies Without Hyde Protections
Demands Senate Block Taxpayer-Funded Abortion
Washington, D.C. – Today, Live Action, one of the nation’s leading human rights organizations, condemns yesterday's House passage through a discharge petition of legislation extending enhanced Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies for three years without the important Hyde Amendment protections that prevent taxpayer dollars from funding abortions.
On January 8, 2026, the U.S. House of Representatives voted 230-196 to pass the bill, with unanimous Democratic support and 17 Republicans joining them, including representatives from prolife states Florida, Texas, and Ohio. This measure would subsidize health plans that cover abortions, forcing American taxpayers to fund the killing of preborn American children.
Since 1976, research has shown that the Hyde Amendment has saved nearly 2.5 million lives by prohibiting federal funds from paying for abortions directly. In January 2025, President Trump issued an Executive Order titled "Enforcing the Hyde Amendment,” which reaffirmed the policy.
Live Action calls on Senate Republicans to stand firm and refuse to pass this bill without inserting full Hyde Amendment protections.
Founder and President of Live Action, Lila Rose released the following statement:
"The House passage of Affordable Care Act subsidy extensions without Hyde Amendment protections is a grave betrayal, forcing taxpayers to fund the killing of innocent lives through abortion by subsidizing plans that cover abortions.
The Hyde Amendment is a non-negotiable bedrock of federal pro-life policy that has saved millions of lives.
There can be no compromise on the lives of children. Senators who respect the human right to life and the conscience rights of their constituents must reject this dangerous bill unless full Hyde protections are added in. We demand that our political leaders stand firm: sacrificing Hyde means sacrificing American children.”
Live Action urges all pro-life Americans to contact their Senators immediately and demand they protect taxpayers by insisting on Hyde Amendment language in any health care legislation.
