Live Action Leads Pro-Life Movement with Coalition Demanding Equal Protection for Children in the Womb

Pro-Life Movement Calls for Full Protection of Human Life through the 14th Amendment and sets the ‘New North Star’

Washington, D.C. — Live Action – one of the nation’s leading human rights organizations –has released the New North Star coalition letter signed by dozens of the most influential leaders in academia, law, and the pro-life movement.

Lila Rose, founder and president of Live Action, commented,

“This letter, demanding equal protection for preborn children, which they are guaranteed by the 14th Amendment to our Constitution, will act as the New North Star of the pro-life movement. It’s been one year since Roe v. Wade was overturned. While this was an important pro-life victory, our fight to make abortion illegal and unthinkable while ensuring families have the support they need is far from over.  This document is an uncompromising and robust description of guiding principles that lawmakers can look to as they craft policies that will save children from the brutal violence of abortion. At this moment, the pro-life movement is speaking with clarity and unity: we will completely end abortion and ensure that equal justice is achieved for every human being.”

The letter demands that every branch and level of government take steps to secure equal protection for children in the womb. Several policies protecting the unborn child are mentioned, including:

  • Acknowledging children from the earliest embryonic stage forward as legal and constitutional persons entitled to the equal protection of state and local laws through constitutional provisions and legislation, and preventing states and localities from denying such protection;

  • Ensuring that fetal homicide, wrongful death, and child endangerment laws, including the federal Unborn Victims of Violence Act, are vigorously enforced to protect all preborn children, so that preborn babies and their families can obtain justice against the criminals who harm them;

  • Passing robust and enforcing existing prenatal child support laws from conception to ensure that all parents take responsibility for the children they create.

As the letter states, “Our North Star in the pro-life movement remains the same as ever: the end of abortion through ensuring the equal protection of the law. The pro-life movement must direct its steps according to the existing guarantee in our Constitution that secures equal protection for all.”
