Live Action Leads Coalition Letter Demanding
FDA Reverse Approval of New Abortion Drug and Pull Abortion Pill From the Market
Washington, D.C. —Today, Live Action, one of the nation’s leading human rights organizations, has released a coalition letter signed by the most influential leaders in academia, law, and the pro-life movement responding to the FDA’s approval of a new generic version of the abortion pill. The coalition demands that the agency reverse that decision.
Lila Rose, founder and president of Live Action, commented,
“The FDA has made a reckless and harmful mistake. The approval of this new generic version of the abortion pill comes less than one month after Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F Kennedy confirmed that the FDA would conduct a new review of abortion drugs. This dangerous policy is in violation of what Secretary Kennedy has said publicly regarding his concern for the safety of mothers who take the abortion pill. Mifepristone was developed solely to kill babies, and in that process, it often harms mothers.
The FDA is not focused on American healthcare and blatantly disregards the safety of women and children. FDA Commissioner Marty Makary and HHS Secretary Kennedy Jr. must reverse this decision immediately, for the safety of our nation’s women and children.”
The coalition letter emphasises the following:
Chemical abortion accounts for nearly two-thirds of all abortions in the United States, ending the lives of an estimated 7.5 million children since its approval.
The recent study of the EPPOC shows that 1 in 10 women who take the abortion pill have serious adverse events, such as sepsis, infection, and hemorrhage. This is at a rate 22 times higher than reported by the FDA.
Minimal safeguards allowing for online and telehealth distribution increase risk for coercion and abuse.
The coalition letter states that “...this decision should be immediately reversed, and mifipristone should be pulled from the market altogether. Every abortion is a violation of human rights, and every life lost is an irreplaceable son or daughter. The federal government must stop enabling this violence under the false banner of “healthcare.”
