Lila Rose Demands Action on The Abortion Pill in Advance of the State of the Union Address
FDA is Skirting Responsibility; Killing Children and Harming Women
Washington, D.C. – Today, Live Action, one of the nation’s leading human rights organizations, shares a message from its Founder and President, Lila Rose to President Trump before he addresses the nation in his annual State of the Union.
Rose’s statement is as follows:
“Tonight, at the State of the Union, the Americans who value human life are asking you directly to protect mothers and children now from the deadly abortion pill. Chemical abortions account for nearly two-thirds of all abortions in the United States, and since the FDA approved Mifepristone in 2000, this drug regimen has killed millions of preborn children, and at least 37 maternal deaths have been documented. The federal government currently has the evidence, and every day of delay, means more children killed and more women harmed.
A recent Ethics and Public Policy Center report analyzing insurance claims from 2017 to 2023 for nearly one million chemical abortions found that 1 in 10 women suffered serious adverse events, including sepsis, infection, and hemorrhaging. Women are being sent home without in-person follow-up care, then ending up in emergency rooms with - internal bleeding, and other serious complications, while abortion businesses like Planned Parenthood minimize the risks and keep pushing pills through the mail and telehealth appointments.
Live Action has documented Planned Parenthood staff discussing the dispensing of abortion pills without confirming the gestational age of the child, increasing the risk of undetected ectopic pregnancy and severe hemorrhage. They do not check Rh status, putting women at risk of permanent Rh sensitization that can cause miscarriage, stillbirth, or serious complications in future pregnancies. They skip basic medical history, which misses conditions and medications that raise the risk of dangerous drug interactions and uncontrolled bleeding
The FDA has the authority and responsibility to act now in defense of mothers and their children. Revoke mifepristone’s approval as an abortifacient, and until that happens, immediately require in-person exams, full medical screening, and real follow-up care. We demand action now.”
