Youth-oriented pro-life groups to launch first official ‘national Community Baby Shower day’

In April, the Pro-Life Aggies in College Station, Texas held their bi-annual “Community Baby Shower” by standing outside a local Walmart and asking shoppers to consider purchasing baby items to give to them so they could in turn donate everything to a local pregnancy and parenting resource center. By the end of the weekend, the front seat, back seat, and trunk of a member’s car were completely filled with baby wipes, diapers, formula, and other necessities, and over $700 in cash donations were received, all of which went to a local pregnancy center.

A college group received these donations in one weekend to give to a local pregnancy center. Your group can do it, too!

The initiative was such a success that the college group has joined forces with Bryan Kemper of Stand True, Priests for Life, and Students for Life of America to begin an official Baby Shower movement. On the weekend of September 28, 2012, the first National Community Baby Shower Day will be held. Groups can register and receive step-by-step instructions and helpful tips and tricks for hosting a fruitful Baby Shower.

Dear Reader,

Together, we can end abortion and create a future where every child is cherished and every mother is supported.

Aggieland Pregnancy Outreach were recipients of [Pro-Life Aggies] donations and it made all the difference in completing our outreach to parents,” said Victoria Buckwalter, who heads the pregnancy center in College Station. She asks every pro-life group to “please sign up for for a schedule drive or start one in your area!”

Aside from receiving donations outside a local Target or Walmart, groups can also request permission from stores such as H-E-B, Kroger, or K-Mart. Searching for gently used baby and maternity items on Craigslist or contacting local churches to ask parishioners to leave baby items in a box in the church office for donation are also viable options for hosting a Baby Shower.

If you’re looking for something to jump-start your pro-life group this school year, joining in for the National Community Baby Shower Day is the perfect activity.
