Video: Millennial poet shares powerful message for post-abortive women

Bernadine Barber is a spoken word poet who channels her gift into reaching Millennials with messages of life and faith. Her recent spoken word album, My Generation, features a poem about the impact of abortion on women.

In 2015, Bernadine told Texas Right to Life that she became devastated by abortion when she learned “what really happened to pre-born babies during the different abortion procedures.” Bernadine isn’t alone. Live Action’s recent project exposing abortion procedures, for example, has proven a powerful tool in changing hearts and minds that had been apathetic toward abortion.

Bernadine shared with Live Action News that she uses her gift of spoken word poetry for the pro-life cause because she believes it is a way to communicate with the Millennial generation. “I use poetry to speak up about the issues of life and abortion because I believe the tide is changing in my generation,” she said. “Millennials are becoming more and more aware of the facts and therefore, more and more pro-life. We are learning the truth and then passing it on to bring about change.”

And Bernadine is right: Millennials are the most pro-life generation since Roe v. Wade, and we are changing the abortion landscape. Millennials are the first American generation born and raised in a nation where we were all at risk of being aborted. And we keenly feel the absence of scores of our peers who are not here today because they were aborted — peers who would have been our classmates, friends, spouses, and colleagues.

Millennial pro-lifers have invested everything into ending abortion in their lifetime. Millennials like Live Action founder Lila Rose lead the pro-life movement. Led by Millennials, pro-life campus groups now outnumber pro-abortion campus groups by 4-to-1. Pro-life Millennials are writing the books, founding the new pro-life initiatives, and unabashedly engaging in the abortion conversation.

Bernadine’s spoken word poetry attests to the fact that every young person has something to offer the pro-life movement. It also attests to the power post-abortive women can have to change hearts and minds once they have personally experienced healing.
