Texas doctor loses medical license after prescribing 'abortive' drug
The medical license of an orthopedic surgeon in Stephenville, Texas, has been revoked after the Texas Medical Board determined he prescribed a patient an "abortive" drug in violation of state law, after having an "inappropriate sexual relationship" with that patient.
Dr. William Evans of Stephenson, Texas, has had his medical license revoked after the Texas Medical Board found he illegally prescribed an "abortive" drug to a patient.
Evans reportedly gave the woman the prescription after he engaged in an "inappropriate sexual relationship" with her.
There is no indication whether or not the woman took the abortion drug.
Dr. William (Bill) Evans has been practicing medicine for 27 years. Last week, the Texas Medical Board revoked his ability to continue.
A letter from the Texas Medical Board to Evans states that the Board had discovered that Evans "had engaged in an inappropriate sexual relationship with a patient," and "on or about December 17, 2023, [Evans] prescribed an abortive to that patient, in violation of Health and Safety Code Section 170A.002(a)."
There is no indication as to whether or not the woman took the 'abortive' drug, nor how the Texas Medical Board discovered this took place.
The letter, dated September 4, 2026, informs Evans that his medical license was revoked immediately. A notice posted at the website of Evans' medical practice, Cross Timbers Orthopaedics, indicated it was closed as of late last week.
At the time Evans prescribed the abortion-inducing drug, Texas' Human Life Protection Act, which protects nearly all preborn children from abortion, was in effect.
The law requires the Medical Board to "revoke the license, permit, registration, certificate, or other authority of a physician or other health care professional who performs, induces, or attempts an abortion."
Though Evans has not yet been criminally charged, per the law he also faces a second-degree felony charge for prescribing the abortion-inducing drug, with the possibility for that charge to be upgraded to a first-degree charge if a preborn child died as a result of his actions. He could also face a civil penalty.
There is little information given about the specifics of this case, and whether or not the pregnant woman wanted an abortion.
However, the case calls into question whether Evans abused his power as a medical authority in engaging in an inappropriate sexual relationship with a patient, and then prescribing her an 'abortive' drug to kill her preborn child.
