Rapper Cardi B chooses life for her fourth baby: 'I do not regret my kids'

Rapper Cardi B is pregnant with her fourth child amid personal drama and controversy in her life. Yet despite her busy career and the circumstances around her, she is speaking out about refusing to have an abortion.

Key Takeaways:

  • Cardi B has three born children, all fathered by her ex-husband, Offset.

  • She been dating Stefon Diggs, an NFL player, who has been involved in paternity controversy with another woman.

  • Cardi confirmed last week that she is pregnant with her fourth child, and refused to have an abortion despite negative reactions to her pregnancy.

The Details:

Cardi B, whose real name is Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, announced her pregnancy while Diggs remains at the center of an unfolding paternity scandal.

Another woman, model Lord Gisselle, filed a lawsuit against him, saying he is also the father of her child. Though this allegedly happened before Diggs began dating Cardi B, fan reaction about Cardi's pregnancy has been largely negative. Despite this, she appeared to brush it off in an Instagram post.

“That’s your baby daddy, b---h? That’s my baby daddy, too," she said in the video, as she made a casserole. “What now? I don’t f--king know. We’ll figure it out, b---h.”

Cardi shared that despite all the backlash, she is happy to be a mother again.

"I'm happy," she said. "I feel like I'm in a good space. I feel very strong, very powerful that I'm doing all this work — but I'm doing all this work while I'm creating a baby."

In an interview with The Jasmine Brand, she also addressed speculation that she should have an abortion, saying she refuses to go to the "chop shop."

She added:

"This is my life and this is my decision. And one thing about it, I do not regret my kids. Not none, four of them. I don't regret it.

I have choices while I'm pregnant and I still don't go to the chop shop. I have a choice and I would've done it if I wanted to, but I didn't want it to, and I know I could do this and y'all see the type of mom that I am.

You have an opinion about my personal life. Cool. But do not bring my motherhood. I don't play about that title."

She also said that she will bring her baby with her when it comes time to tour again.

Cardi has previously spoken about refusing abortion, asking why she couldn't have a career and a baby. "It’s just like, you know what? I’m a grown woman, I’m 25 years old, I’m going to share this in the most humblest way, I’m a schmillionaire … I’m prepared for this," she said, continuing, “It just really bothers me and it disgusts me because I see a lot of women online like, ‘Oh, I feel sorry for you. Oh, your career is over,.' And it’s like, why can’t I have both? Like as a woman, why can’t I have both? Like, why do I gotta choose a career or a baby? I want both.”

Commentary:

Cardi B has shown herself to be a capable mother. But the shared "baby daddy" drama, even if she appears to shrug it off, is no small matter.

Sex isn't "casual." Creating new human beings isn't a "casual" act. And while Cardi clearly views her children as the gifts that they are, it is sad to think that her newest blessing might not have his or her father around and in a committed relationship with Cardi. If Diggs is indeed the father of both Cardi's and Gisselle's babies, he has done them both — and their children — an injustice.

Children aren't as resilient as many think they are; absent parents, broken marriages, and strained relationships between parents do impact children and the way they grow and learn to see the family and the world around them.

Humans are relational creatures, and children deserve stability and love in their lives — from both parents.

Zoom In:

One interesting thing to come from Cardi's statements was her reference to an abortion facility as a "chop shop." While some still try to argue that abortion is legitimate health care, the reality is, it takes a human life every time it is committed and sometimes injures or kills the mother, too.

Abortion is intentional killing, which can be clearly seen in simple explanations of how these procedures are committed.

In a chemical abortion, the preborn child is starved to death; with surgical abortions, the child is either violently suctioned out of his or her mother's womb, ripped apart limb by limb, or injected with poison.

Calling an abortion facility a "chop shop" is a shockingly accurate description of what takes place behind those closed doors.

The Bottom Line:

Cardi B makes it clear that she has no regrets for choosing life for her children, recognizing them as gifts to be valued and protected, regardless of the circumstances. Abortion is a decision that robs women of motherhood and of the joy of bringing new human beings into the world.

No child deserves to die for being conceived in less than ideal circumstances.
