Florida man found guilty of murdering pregnant girlfriend who refused abortion
Update 11/4/25: A Seminole County jury voted October 30 to sentence Donovan Faison to death for the fatal 2022 shooting of Kaylin Fiengo.
Assistant State Attorneys Stewart Stone, Domenick Leo and Anna Valentini encouraged the jury to consider the death penalty.
“You may and should consider the cold, calculated, premeditated nature of this killing,” Stone told jurors. “This was an execution-style killing.”
Circuit Judge Donna Goerner will issue the final sentencing after a hearing scheduled for December 5.
10/30/25: An Orlando-area man has been found guilty of murdering a pregnant teen because she refused to abort their preborn child.
In 2022, 18-year-old Kaylin Fiengo was fatally shot by Donovan Faison because she refused to abort their preborn child.
The couple had reportedly argued often over Fiengo's refusal to abort.
Faison faces the death penalty for the crime.
A jury on Monday found Donovan Faison, 23, guilty of first-degree premeditated murder, killing an unborn child, and burglary, in the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Kaylin Fiengo in 2022.
Prosecutors say Faison and Fiengo had been in a romantic relationship and Fiengo was pregnant. The couple had reportedly argued often over the pregnancy, with Faison attempting to coerce Fiengo into aborting the baby. After she texted him a photo of her positive pregnancy test, he accused her of lying, then wrote, "Abortion!!!" However, Fiengo, who was also the mother of a one-year-old child, refused.

At one point, Faison alluded to his intention to kill Fiengo, as he texted a friend, “On my brothers grave, I’m gonna crop her out.”
On November 11, 2022, a police officer patrolling a park in Sanford, Florida, found Fiengo's body in the driver's seat of her vehicle, with a bullet wound to her head. She was three months pregnant at the time — an ultrasound photo of her preborn child was found near her body. Fiengo had told a friend she was going to the park to meet Faison.
"Our investigators have made sure every possible shred of evidence was processed and analyzed in order to bring Kaylin's killer to justice," Sanford Police Chief Cecil Smith said in a statement. "This beautiful, young woman and mother was taken from this world far too soon, and in a horrific way."
The sentencing phase of the trial began on October 29. Faison faces the death penalty for the crimes.
Homicide is the leading cause of death among pregnant women in the United States, and many of these homicides are linked to domestic violence situations.
Often, as occurred in Fiengo's case, mothers are killed because they refuse to submit to pressure to abort their preborn children. Legalized abortion has created the expectation that women have abortions, and when they refuse to, abusive men feel justified in killing them.
