Mississippi unveils ‘MAMA’ website to help mothers and families: ‘You are not alone’

Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch announced Monday the launch of a new website that will help connect pregnant women and families to resources available to them within the state.

The Mississippi Access to Maternal Assistance (MAMA) website, found at MAMA.MS.Gov, offers helpful information across nine different categories, including pregnancy, health, adoption, food, goods, safety, money, child care, and jobs. The website provides quick and easy access to both public and private resources, including non-profit and faith-based programs, and it is designed to help connect women with the resources they’re looking for in as little as three clicks. The state legislature passed the Mississippi Access to Maternal Assistance (MAMA) program in March.

“Our state is blessed with countless public and private resources, but it can be challenging to navigate while also adjusting to a changing family,” said General Fitch in a press release. “Whether you are a mother-to-be or a mother of three, MAMA.MS.GOV can quickly connect you to the resources women and their children need to thrive, including health care, food and clothing, safety and shelter, jobs and job training, education, childcare, and much more.”

Shannon Bagley, Executive Director of the Crisis Pregnancy Center in Vicksburg, told WLBT she believes the website will be a positive tool in helping women find the services, help, and answers they are looking for.

“Anything that can help bring that information to a woman that is in need of it, at that moment, she needs. It is absolutely important,” Bagley said.

A mobile app is expected to follow in January 2024.

“Today marks just the beginning of MAMA,” General Fitch explained. “Over the coming months, we expect it to grow and offer new and exciting opportunities and resources for Mississippi women and families. It is my hope that MAMA reminds mothers across the state of this important truth: you are not alone, and you can do this!”
