Heartbeat International has announced a major milestone for OptionLine, the organization’s “pro-life contact center providing round-the-clock support for women and families in need” who are experiencing unplanned pregnancies. According to an emailed press release, this week, the “only fully staffed, 24/7 bilingual pro-life contact center in the United States, served its 4-millionth client with life-saving assistance and resources.”
The four-millionth call was received on August 24th from India, and “a seasoned consultant… helped the client sort through her concerns and find pregnancy help near her area via Heartbeat International’s Worldwide Directory of Pregnancy Help.”
The consultant who served the client commented that her motivation to serve others comes from her own personal experience with an unplanned pregnancy. “Because of my life experiences I can relate to young women in crisis. I wouldn’t want any other job!” she said.
OptionLine Director Nafisa Kennedy celebrated the call, saying, “Having worked as a consultant, I can say that a 4-millionth contact is a great milestone!” She emphasized OptionLine’s continuing commitment to serve every client in need. “The work goes on—the need goes on, and every minute is another opportunity to impact a person (or two people) for eternity.”
OptionLine is in its 18th year of operation, reportedly receiving “hundreds” of contacts daily from all over the world. According to the press release, OptionLine specialists “meet immediate needs and connect women directly with their local pregnancy help organization and scheduling appointments in real-time through a state-of-the-art system. Option Line partners with centers to take 100-percent of their calls after hours and schedule appointments for when the centers reopen.”
Even though OptionLine experienced a significant increase in call volume at the beginning of the pandemic, seeing a 30-50% increase initially, the contact center has consistently maintained a 90% answer rate, “well above the industry standard.” Staff additionally serve as 24/7 emergency contact support for the Abortion Pill Rescue Network.
