Following the fall of Roe, June is a month to celebrate life

Life Month

One year ago, on June 24, 2022, the United States witnessed a national-level miracle with the overturning of Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court ruling that forced legalized abortion upon every state in the nation. Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization would be the undoing of Roe and help make June a month for celebrating life.

In the Dobbs decision, the Supreme Court ruled that states can regulate abortion, leading to multiple states creating laws to protect preborn children from abortion. Gabrielle Bruno, a former intern for the Dobbs case, recently felt burdened by the lack of celebration following the monumental Supreme Court decision. She began praying and sensed God saying, “Now is the time to celebrate life!”

How Life Month began

Gabrielle Bruno told Live Action News, “After much prayer, I decided to reach out to a group of young adults organized by Dr. Jim Garlow, who earlier this year were asked to pray on his broadcast, Well-Versed World.” From that group emerged a small team filled with the Holy Spirit and ready to take on the God-given task. With only a week until the first day of June, Giulia Giampa, Cody English, and Matt Oakes joined Bruno in making Life Month a reality.

Within a couple of days, a website was designed, social media pages were created, logos and flyers were made, a daily scripture and devotion plan was organized, a professional quality promo video was produced, and word began to spread about the campaign. “You know the Holy Spirit is upon something when it’s moving faster than you can even keep up with,” Bruno said.

As Life Month began to develop, it became clear God wanted the American principle of free speech to be utilized boldly in this celebration of life. Bruno explained, “Free speech is used forcefully to push liberal agendas, so why not use it to counter all that bad speech with good speech?”

English said, “It’s so easy to focus on the negativity and the distractions of the enemy. We were meant to go higher. Now’s the time to magnify the things of God!”

Celebrating life

As shared on their website, Life Month is about celebrating and championing life in the womb, but it also involves celebrating those who have overcome cancer, depression, suicidal thoughts, anxiety, relational hardships, homelessness, addictions, and so much more. Ultimately, celebrating life is about recognizing and honoring the Author of Life.

“The one-year anniversary of the overturning of Roe v. Wade provides the perfect opportunity to rally around the concept of praising God for what He has already done. We need to flood the airwaves with testimonies of God’s faithfulness,” Bruno said.

She added, “God is asking us to put all our passion into praise and thanksgiving. It’s time for us to be bold and get loud!”

Life Month’s website has resources and ideas to help individuals and organizations participate in the celebration of life. The group is also be hosting nightly Zoom meetings consisting of prayer, sharing information about the campaign, and giving testimonies of God’s faithfulness and love toward His people. Suggested ways to participate include utilizing social media to spread the word — such as changing a pro-life photo to the Life Month logo, sharing Life Month social media posts with friends and family, and using the hashtags #LifeMonth and #CelebrateLifeMonth. Other suggestions to participate with a group are, “Have a potluck celebration[,] host a praise night[,] set up a time of prayer at your local park or abortion clinic, host a picnic, have a ‘life’ speaker series at your church or in your community.” Another idea is to “Ask your county council, or your state legislators, or your senators or congressmen, or your governor, to proclaim that June is Life Month!”

The group also offers a 30-day Celebrate Life Month bible reading plan and accompanying devotionals.

“When we decide we’re no longer afraid to speak up for what’s right, to stand firm in the things of God, and share our testimonies, we will be, dangerously unstoppable because courage is contagious and the fire will quickly spread,” Bruno said.

Several organizations are promoting Life Month, including The Justice Foundation, The Moral Outcry, Family Research Council, Intercessors for America, World Prayer Network, Not Forgotten Ministries, and Legacy Photography, in addition to pregnancy resource centers and churches around the country.

“It’s a total God thing!” said Campa. “All Glory to Him! We’re so excited to see what God is going to do through Life Month!”
