CHICAGO, IL - MAY 18: A cyclist rides past a Planned Parenthood clinic on May 18, 2018 in Chicago, Illinois. The Trump administration is expected to announce a plan for massive funding cuts to Planned Parenthood and other taxpayer-backed abortion providers by reinstating a Reagan-era rule that prohibits federal funding from going to clinics that discuss abortion with women or that share space with abortion providers. Illinois abortion facilities injured 21 women in 2025

According to a report from pro-life watchdog group Operation Rescue, abortion facilities in the state of Illinois injured at least 21 women in 2025.

Key Takeaways:

  • There are 21 known instances of women being seriously injured by abortionists in Illinois in 2025.

  • In one of the cases, staff at a Planned Parenthood "threw" her out on the street even though she couldn't stand up.

  • Illinois does not require abortion facilities to be licensed and has laws in place to protect abortionsts, putting them above women's safety.

The Details:

There are eight abortion facilities throughout the state of Illinois, and the state treats abortion as a right. Under the Reproductive Care Act, abortion is allowed through 24-26 weeks for any reason and after that point if the patient's health or life is considered to be at risk, with "health" including "emotional, psychological, and familial health and age." There is no waiting period, no parental consent requirement, and the state's medicaid program and most private insurances must cover abortion. In addition, there are shield laws to protect abortionists, the abortionist does not need to be a doctor, and the state does not require that the abortion facilities be inspected.

Illinois abortion facilities are notorious for injuring women, with Chicago's Family Planning Associates (FPA) named Operation Rescue's Worst of the Worst in 2024. This year, at least 21 women were injured by abortionists in the state.

“Our team has investigated each of these 21 injuries,” said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue. “However, details that should be accessible to the public have become harder and harder to obtain in Illinois – and Chicago, in particular. City officials seem to think shielding the abortion clinics they refuse to inspect and regulate is more important than allowing the public to find out what these unregulated clinics are doing to women.”

On August 26, Planned Parenthood in Aurora called 911 after a patient experienced severe bleeding. Seven days later on September 6, the same Planned Parenthood called 911 for a patient with a uterine perforation, a common risk with abortion.

A woman was taken out of FPA on a gurney to an ambulance on September 30, her head covered with a sheet as FPA staff held up large white sheets to block her from being seen. Then on October 7, just a week later, another woman left FPA by ambulance, removed from the building by wheelchair.

Chicago Planned Parenthood client collapses outside: 'They threw me out'

The most recent incident took place at Near North Planned Parenthood in Chicago where a woman was seen outside the door, crying and unable to stand, telling pro-life sidewalk counselors that the staff did the abortion "and threw me out."

“What is happening in Illinois is unconscionable,” said Newman. “An abortion clinic can literally dump an injured woman on the street while state officials refuse to require these back-alley chop shops to be licensed or even inspected. What other place of legitimate health care is allowed that kind of blind leniency? The answer is none. Abortion, the sacred cow of states like Illinois, is the only industry that receives the freedom to do as it pleases, while women and preborn children pay the price.”

Why it Matters:

Women are sold abortion as a safe and simple procedure, but it carries significant risks. When, like in Illinois, abortion facilities are not required to hold a license or be inspected, it only serves to make the procedure even more dangerous. And when injuries do occur, they are kept hidden from the public while the abortionists are protected. One recent case involved Keith Reisinger-Kindle who perforated a woman's uterus at an abortion business in Champaign-Urbana, and left half of her baby's body inside of her. Despite the severity of the injury, Illinois allows him to continue committing abortions, putting the abortion industry ahead of women's safety.
