Georgia unveils new design for ‘Choose Life’ license plates supporting pregnancy centers
On January 28, 2020, Georgia introduced a new license plate design for drivers who want to spread the pro-life message. The new design for the state’s pro-life plates features an adult hand with the shape of an infant hand resting in its palm. Currently, more than 3,000 vehicles showcase the state’s pro-life license plates on the roads.
A portion of the cost of the license plate will go to support non-profit pregnancy centers in the state, which give women experiencing unplanned pregnancies the emotional, physical, and financial support they need. Choose Life of Georgia is behind the effort, and will be responsible for receiving the funds and distributing them to Georgia pregnancy centers. Choose Life of Georgia’s stated goal for the program is “to channel resources into frontline life-affirming agencies to increase the number of abortion-vulnerable women who choose adoption for their children.”
Choose Life president Karen LaBarr stated in the group’s press release, “Our message is that every child—born or pre-born—deserves loving protection and support. We especially want to encourage expectant women to choose life for their babies by parenting them or by entrusting them to adoptive parents.”
The design for the new plates was originally added to the license plate design list back in 2006 when then-Senator (now Governor) Brian Kemp promoted the plates and the opportunity they garnered for the funding of pregnancy centers. The previous design was an image of two children. The license plates cost $25 initially and then require an annual renewal fee of $35. According to the press release, “The plates have generated nearly $400,000 in revenues distributed to help those in unexpected pregnancy.”
Georgia citizens wishing to purchase Choose Life license plates should visit the organization’s website here. Supporting local pregnancy centers like Georgia and some other states are doing is an important pro-life effort. Reaching women and men in crisis, to care for both them and their children, is exactly the kind of action that can heal hearts and change lives.
