REPORT: Factory worker delivers baby at work, slits baby's throat

A 19-year-old woman in India is accused of giving birth to a baby boy at work, slitting the baby's throat, and disposing of the baby's body in the bathroom of the factory where she worked.

Key Takeaways:

  • A woman in India has been detained for allegedly giving birth at work, killing the newborn boy, and hiding his body in a bag in the toilet.

  • A fellow employee at the factory discovered the body and alerted security.

  • The alleged mother was found based on CCTV footage, and she was taken to the hospital with a post-delivery infection.

  • Police have indicated that she will likely be charged with murder.

The Details:

According to reports, on April 23, a woman working at a Foxconn facility near Bengaluru, where devices are assembled for Apple, went to the bathroom during her shift. She allegedly gave birth to a baby boy prematurely, at an estimated seven months, slashed the newborn's throat, and concealed his body inside a bag in the toilet.

Later in the day, another employee went to the bathroom, saw that the toilet was clogged by the bag, and found the body. That employee contacted the factory security, who then called the police. A preliminary investigation is underway, and the alleged mother was detained based on CCTV footage.

According to The Hindu, the mother suffered a post-delivery infection and was taken to the hospital. Police are seeking a murder charge.

"Foxconn is aware of the situation and has been closely cooperating with local authorities in their investigation," said Foxconn in a statement. "The well-being of our employees is our foremost concern, and we are providing additional support to all of our team members in Bengaluru. Due to the sensitive nature of the matter and to protect the privacy of those involved, we are unable to provide further comments."

Why It Matters:

This tragedy is not an outlier, as women around the world and even in the United States often turn to murder or infant abandonment after giving birth, either without having known they were pregnant or because they feared the stigma of having a child and worked to hide the pregnancy.

Young people in today's culture are lied to that premarital sex is good, but pregnancy and parenthood are not. The true victims of this distorted view of sex and pregnancy are the innocent children created and then killed either through abortion or infanticide.
