Doctors said she miscarried and was at risk. Another ultrasound ‘found a tiny heartbeat.’

The 4D Ultrasound Lady, known for sharing amazing videos of 4D ultrasounds depicting the active and vibrant lives of children in the womb, may have recently saved a baby who was nearly killed due to a careless doctor’s mistake.

The 4D Ultrasound Lady is run by Kailey and Kalin, registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographers, who work with a team of radiologists. They recently shared the story of a client whose baby was about five weeks gestation, a point at which his or her heartbeat was still undetectable. At this stage of pregnancy, only a gestational sac is usually visible.

While the baby’s heart had begun beating 21-22 days after fertilization, neither ultrasound nor fetal doppler equipment would be able to register it until about six weeks. When the woman showed the images to her doctor, the doctor declared she had experienced a miscarriage and prescribed her drugs to end the pregnancy.

“I scanned a mom last week,” The 4D Ultrasound Lady wrote on Facebook. “All I saw was a gestational sac, no heartbeat yet. I assured her that was normal for an early pregnancy (5ish weeks), she expected to be a little further along based on her last period, but those calculations, sooo often, just aren’t perfect. I told her to give it a week, come back, and we would likely see a heartbeat.”

The woman “trusts her doctors, as we should be able to do,” The 4D Ultrasound Lady explained. She called to let them know that only a gestational sac had been seen, and she showed them the images.

“They declared she had miscarried, and her body had missed it, thats why the gestational sac was empty,” The 4D Ultrasound Lady explained. “They prescribed her meds to get rid of everything in her uterus. They told her she could become septic if she didn’t flush everything soon. All of this WITHOUT EVER SEEING HER IN PERSON!!!!! They did no bloodwork, they did not recommend an ultrasound, they just scared her to death and advised she get rid of her pregnancy….”

Thankfully, the woman didn’t listen, because when she returned about a week later to see The 4D Ultrasound Lady for a follow-up “just to make sure she was okay to take those meds her doctor had given her, just to make sure she had actually miscarried,” it was obvious that her baby was alive and well.

“I found a tiny heartbeat, baby is 5 weeks 6 days, everything looks completely fine, baby just needed time,” wrote The 4D Ultrasound Lady.

She urged other women, “[Y]ou better educate yourself and fight for your babies, because you can’t always trust the medical community anymore. I am so disappointed.”

The human heart first begins to beat and is pumping blood about three weeks after fertilization (five weeks gestation), though it typically cannot be detected by ultrasound until about six weeks gestation, a week later. Doctors’ insistence on quickly prescribing drugs to empty the uterus based on a very early ultrasound and no other testing to confirm it is not good medical practice.

However, recent media reports of women asking for immediate miscarriage interventions are leading to mass confusion.

Stories of women who have demanded immediate dilation and curettage (D&C) procedures following diagnoses of miscarriage are rampant in pro-abortion news stories. These women usually claim they have been denied appropriate miscarriage care because of pro-life laws enacted after the fall of Roe v. Wade in 2022.

While this is false, the abortion-friendly media has terrified women into believing they must immediately take abortion drugs or have a D&C, or their lives are at risk. Some doctors, trained during the reign of Roe, have also fallen victim to this lie because of cases in which sepsis was overlooked or ignored despite clear signs of it, and despite hospital systems alerting doctors when symptoms indicated possible sepsis — which must always be immediately addressed.

The Bottom Line:

Standard protocol for a miscarriage is to “wait and watch” and allow it to naturally take its course while remaining alert for any possible signs of infection. Many miscarriages complete without outside intervention and can take up to two weeks to complete. However, there are certain signs to watch for to alert a woman to take action.

No woman should be pressured to take abortion drugs or undergo a D&C procedure without a valid health reason and without proper and thorough testing to confirm a miscarriage.
