People on the street answer: 'Is sex-selective abortion ok?'

In its latest video, Live Action took to the streets to challenge the prevailing view that abortion is a "woman's right," and should be available for any reason — even due to the child's gender. Through a series of questions, people were asked to consider: Should sex selective abortion legal?

Key Takeaways:

  • In its recent Man on the Street video, Live Action asked people to consider if men and women deserve equal rights.

  • People are then questioned if those rights should extend to preborn children in the womb, and if sex-selective abortion should be allowed.

The Details:

Live Action's latest "Man on the Street" video starts by asking a simple question:

"Do you think that men and women, boys and girls, should have the same rights, regardless of age?"

Everyone who answered in the video agreed that yes, everyone deserves equal human rights.

The next question took it a step further: "Should they have the right to the same medical care? Would it be ok to deny medical care based on gender?" Again, the answer was resoundingly in favor of equal care for all.

Respondents also agreed that it would never be ok to terminate someone's life based on gender. But the next question appeared to trip up a few respondents, as the interviewer asked: "Do you support the availability of sex-selective abortion?"

Though some respondents agreed that abortion would not be ok for sex-selective reasons, others had to pause. One man insisted that the choice to abort is a woman's right until the first "10 or 12 weeks." However, he struggled to reconcile this view with his statement that it would never be ok to terminate a life based on gender, calling it "a trick question."

Live Action Investigation: Sex-Selective Abortion

Overall, abortion supporters were unable to justify how they could oppose terminating a person's life based on their gender while still allowing abortion for sex-selective reasons. One man even changed his answer as he came to see the inconsistency in his thinking and beliefs.

While some abortion supporters were tripped up by the line of questioning, other respondents stated that they don't support abortion in any circumstance.

"I feel like it's a baby, another human being. So regardless of the situation, it's still a human being at the end of the day," one man stated.

The Bottom Line:

There is never a logical reason to support abortion, but few abortion supporters ever stop to consider the reality of what abortion actually is. When logic and a basic line of questioning is used, these supporters are unable to justify their support for the killing of preborn children. That's because the taking of innocent life is never justified.
