Abortion activist drops ‘pro-choice’ sign, joins pro-life side during March for Life

On the January 30, 2017 edition of the Catholic Connection radio program, host Teresa Tomeo featured interviews regarding the 44th annual March for Life, which took place on January 27, 2017. While speaking with Jeanne Mancini, president of the March for Life, Tomeo took phone calls from people who had remarkable stories to share from the march. One woman shared how the march directly changed at least one abortion supporter’s heart.

Maryann called into the show from Midland, Michigan. She was unable to attend the march herself, but her husband and her daughter both went. She shared the amazing moment when her family witnessed a pro-abortion counter-protester have a change of heart:

Their group were ahead of the [March for Life] banner, and they were actually witness to three young people —two guys and one woman — who were carrying pro-abortion signs. And they got to the point in the march where there were photographs and banners of pictures of abortions, and a video of an abortion, and the woman stopped dead in her tracks, she started to cry, she put down her sign, and she picked up a pro-life sign.

Maryann’s husband and daughter told her that while the two men she was with abandoned her right then and there, pro-lifers nearby surrounded the woman to offer her support and love.

“Don’t ever think that this march doesn’t change hearts,” said Maryann.

While most pro-lifers understand the biology of life inside the womb, there are still many abortion supporters who have fallen victim to the lie that preborn children are nothing but “clumps of tissue.” Sharing videos and images of what an abortion actually involves, and what a preborn child looks like at different stages of development, can have a lasting impact on people who consider themselves to be “pro-choice.” Standing up for the right to life even when it feels like we are standing alone, can and will make a difference— one heart and one mind at a time.
