40 Days for Life success: 738 babies saved, 5 abortion workers quit!

abortion, 40 days for life

The latest 40 Days for Life campaign has announced that thanks to their volunteers around the world in 855 cities and 61 countries, 738 preborn children were spared from abortion and five workers quit the industry. 40 Days for Life participants hold peaceful vigils outside of abortion facilities while praying and fasting for an end to the killing of innocent preborn children.

“It was the largest year in the history of 40 Days for Life,” said Shawn Carney, president and CEO of 40 Days for Life. And the large number of lives saved and changed outside abortion facilities proves that pro-life sidewalk counselors do make an impact on the women entering there.

In fact, they make such a difference, that abortion facilities around the world continue to push for buffer zone laws that force pro-lifers to keep a certain distance from their entrances. Preventing pro-lifers from speaking to abortion-minded women means a lesser chance of babies’ lives being saved — and less money for abortion businesses. While it’s impossible to know how many lives will be saved by the presence of sidewalk counselors who pray outside abortion facilities throughout the year, they know that their dedication will eventually pay off.

“Even if it was just one [baby saved], it was all worth it,” Sue Thayer, a former manager of a Planned Parenthood and current director of outreach for 40 Days for Life, explained, according to an article in Christian Headlines.

One woman approached the 40 Days for Life volunteers in Manchester, New Hampshire, this fall with her baby in tow, to thank them for saving her child’s life a year earlier.

“I just want you to know you are doing the right thing,” she told them. “I came here last year for an abortion, and there were some people praying. I have my baby now – all because someone was here. My cousin came for an abortion, and no one was here praying. She had her abortion.”

One of the babies saved this year in Manchester was nearly aborted twice. His mother told the pro-life volunteers that she had attempted to schedule the abortion on two occasions. This time, she was arriving to abort her baby.

“When I walked in, you said, ‘I’m praying for you and your baby,'” she explained “That made me come out.”

These are just two of the amazing stories of lives saved and forever changed by 40 Days for Life and prayer. Volunteers not only save lives, but they help women access what they need to care for their babies. From car seats to baby gear, pro-life pregnancy centers offer a world of support to women who, more often than not, feel completely alone. When they know there is support available to them, they are more likely to choose life.
