1 in 3 Campaign brings pro-abortion plays to Florida college students
On Thursday, November 12, the campus of Florida International University in southern Florida will be home to a pro-abortion event from the “1 in 3 Campaign,” which attempts to normalize abortion.
“Out of Silence – Abortion Stories from the 1 in 3 Campaign” will consist of a selection of short plays about women’s positive experiences with abortion, for the purpose of “foster[ing] a future of totally safe medical procedures” and “break[ing] the silence and negative stigma surrounding abortions.”
Following the plays will be a question-and-answer session with “professional and/or experienced speakers” who are not identified in the release.
The event, funded by the school Council for Student Organizations and sponsored by National Organization for Women, Voices for Planned Parenthood, and the FIU Women’s Center, will also raise money for a Miami abortion clinic.
Notably, while asking for attendees to show up with “an open mind,” the announcement also declares that “anti-abortion agendas will not be tolerated and may have to be removed.”
The 1 in 3 Campaign’s name comes from the oft-repeated claim that one in every three women will have an abortion at some point in their lives. However, that statistic is based on a 2011 study which actually found projections lower than 1 in 3, whose authors warned that their findings were not “precise measures,” and based on assumptions that the abortion rate would remain constant instead of decline, as it soon did.
