Pregnant woman stabbed to death after refusing abortion

A London man is currently on trial on charges that he fatally stabbed his pregnant girlfriend because she refused to abort her preborn child.

Key Takeaways:

  • Alana Odysseos was fatally stabbed to death in July 2024 after she reportedly refused to abort her preborn child.

  • Odysseos's boyfriend, Shaine March, is on trial for her murder. He is accused of stabbing her 19 times.

  • Neighbors testified that they heard her screaming, "Shaine stabbed me." Hours earlier they heard her yell that she didn't want to kill her baby.

  • March was apprehended shortly after the incident and told police, "I killed her."

  • Homicide remains a leading cause of death of pregnant women in the U.S.

The Details:

Shaine March, 47, is accused of stabbing Alana Odysseos, 32, 19 times outside her London apartment on July 22, 2024. Odysseos and March had been in a relationship for about four months, and Odysseos was in the "early stages" of pregnancy. After the incident, neighbors reported hearing Odysseos outside screaming, "Shaine stabbed me, he stabbed me! Help! Help!"

Neighbors also say that the couple argued often; just hours before the stabbing, Odysseos was heard saying, “I don’t want to kill my baby.” She was also the mother of two other children.

According to court testimony, March was apprehended shortly after the incident and told police, "I did it, I killed her Alana Odysseos" and "I killed her hahahaha I killed her hahahaha."

Friends and family testified that throughout the relationship, March was very abusive to Odysseos; refusing to allow her to talk to people, and checking up on her whereabouts at all times. Odysseos had also told a friend that they had argued over the pregnancy, and he had pressured her to get an abortion, claiming that the preborn child was not his.

After his arrest, March told officers, “I hope she isn’t dead. I hope the baby in her belly is still alive. But you know what, yeah? But I did say to her, have the abortion…”

According to the BBC, March has admitted to manslaughter on the basis of diminished responsibility, but denies murdering Odysseos.
