Operation Rescue has received a 911 recording showing that a patient experienced suspected lidocaine toxicity, likely related to an abortion, at Planned Parenthood’s East Orlando Health Center on June 14.
Key Takeaways:
- A 911 caller from an Orlando Planned Parenthood requested medical transport for a patient who was experiencing symptoms of lidocaine toxicity.
- This serious medical condition impacts the central nervous system and can cause heart issues.
- Florida law prohibits abortion after six weeks, but the state’s law is not enough to protect women and preborn babies from the harms of abortion.
The Details:
The Planned Parenthood worker called 911 for a medical transport, explaining to the dispatcher that a patient was experiencing symptoms of lidocaine toxicity. Lidocaine is an anesthetic, often used to numb the cervix in a first trimester D&C aspiration (suction) abortion, the procedure in which a suction catheter is inserted into the mother’s uterus and the preborn baby is torn into pieces as it is suctioned from her womb.
According to its website, this Planned Parenthood business commits surgical abortions up to six weeks, per state law.
During the call, the Planned Parenthood staffer appears to have no urgency, taking her time giving the dispatcher information and repeatedly rambling about irrelevant information.
And all the while, someone can be heard in the background, coaching her on what to say.
Why It Matters:
Lidocaine toxicity is a serious condition that occurs when the bloodstream absorbs too much of the anesthetic, leading to toxic conditions. It can impact the central nervous system and cause cardiac issues, and may also cause cognitive and physical side effects.
There are a number of mild symptoms, including dizziness, nausea or vomiting, slurred speech, or difficulty swallowing, while serious symptoms include respiratory distress, seizures, unconsciousness, coma, and cardiac depression.
Women who are pregnant are at an elevated risk of experiencing this condition.
Though abortion is only legal in Florida until six weeks of pregnancy, this incident shows that preborn children are still being killed — and their mothers are still being injured — in the state.
“This alarming case highlights the inherent dangers associated with abortion procedures, even those occurring early in pregnancy,” said Troy Newman, president of Operation Rescue. “A smaller window of time to abort is certainly saving preborn lives in Florida but the abortion cartel continues to operate and we still see dangerous complications arise. ‘Early abortion’ is not synonymous with safety.”
Newman noted the continued need to fight for the protection of all preborn children.
“Rushed procedures, abortionists with a questionable reputation, and inadequate follow-up care for the sake of profit all ensure that we will keep seeing women rolled out of abortion clinics and loaded into ambulances, their child lost forever. We must continue working toward a culture that protects both mother and unborn child, a culture that values life….”
