6 states defund Planned Parenthood in light of scandals
Six states have defunded Planned Parenthood, and multiple state and federal entities launched investigations into the abortion giant in the wake of undercover videos by The Center for Medical Progress.
The group’s public funding has come under intense scrutiny in the aftermath of video evidence showing top-level Planned Parenthood executives discussing the sale of aborted baby parts, admitting they can alter the abortion procedure in order to procure organs from “intact specimen,” and committing what appears to be partial-birth abortions. All activities are illegal under federal law.

After shocking videos emerged, New Hampshire, Utah, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Alabama defunded the abortion business.
This week, Texas became the latest state to cut funding to Planned Parenthood, dealing a major blow to the corporation by eliminating Medicaid contracts with affiliates in the state. Officials say their decision comes in the aftermath of disturbing video evidence obtained inside a Texas facility, which operates under the umbrella of Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, one of the largest and most profitable affiliates.

The “baby parts” scandal is just one among Planned Parenthood’s long list of abuses. The organization has been caught covering-up statutory rape, aiding child sex-traffickers, promoting medical misinformation, supporting infanticide, and showing willingness to perform abortions based on gender and race.
While states have taken initiative to cut funding to Planned Parenthood, multiple congressional committees have also launched investigations into the abortion conglomerate’s illicit and unethical practices. Lawmakers have introduced measures to redirect the $1.4 million Planned Parenthood receives every day from taxpayers to over 13,000 comprehensive health clinics that can better serve women and children. Congress has also held several votes to defund the organization.
The Obama administration, however, has refused to condemn or even watch the undercover videos. President Obama vowed to veto any budget that did not contain federal funding for the group.
In light of Texas’ decision to eliminate Medicaid contracts with Planned Parenthood affiliates, GOP presidential hopeful Ted Cruz urged all states to follow the example of the Lone Star State and end public subsidies.
