SICK: Satanic Temple raffles off abortion ‘up to $2,500’ as part of fundraising campaign

Fresh off their claim that abortion is a “religious rite” of Satanism, the Satanic Temple (TST) is taking it a step further, with a campaign to raise money for “reproductive rights,” complete with an array of prizes – and the grand prize is a free abortion.

The Satanic Temple’s campaign is “raising $100,000 to mobilize legal operations in order to protect religious abortions from unwarranted government interference.” Their goal is also to “[i]nform[] Satanists of their religious protections when seeking pregnancy termination services.” Donors giving at least a $200 donation will be entered to win the grand prize: an abortion paid for by The Satanic Temple, valued at up to $2,500. Other prizes include a “meet and greet” on Zoom with the Temple’s co-founder, and “a religious abortion kit consisting of a TST compact mirror and a ritual instruction sheet.”

The group’s website states, “The Satanic Temple will cover the medical expenses for your pregnancy termination up to $2,500. This prize is transferable.” The amount of money the Satanic Temple is offering to put towards an abortion indicates a willingness to fund a late-term abortion. According to the National Abortion Federation, it is only after the 20th week of pregnancy that abortions costs typically rise above $1,000.

While the Satanic Temple has made repeated claims in the past that “religious freedom” means its practitioners don’t have to abide by abortion restrictions, the idea of abortion as a Satanic “religious rite” is an idea not previously mentioned in the Temple’s past attempts to overturn pro-life laws.

Citing the State Religious Freedom Restoration Acts (RFRA), the Satanic Temple claims pro-life laws “unlawfully hinder access to the Satanic abortion ritual.” And yet, as reported previously by Live Action News, the ritual itself consists of nothing more than repeating a few affirmations in front of a mirror before and after an abortion.

The Third Tenet states that “[o]ne’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone,” while the Fifth Tenet declares that “[b]eliefs should conform to one’s best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one’s beliefs.”

Yet these very tenets, if they are actually sincerely held, would actually mean abortion itself is a violation of the Satanic Temple’s beliefs. After all, a preborn child is not a mere extension of their mother’s body; he or she is a distinct, unique human being with his own DNA who is alive and growing. This is a not a religious belief, but a scientific fact. It is for this very reason that the pro-life movement opposes abortion; for pro-lifers, abortion is a human rights issue, not a religious issue. Yet the Satanic Temple appears to be attempting to frame abortion as part of their religion while denigrating pro-life laws.

It is beyond disgusting to offer up the death of a human being as a prize. Yet considering the other stunts the Satanic Temple has pulled, it has become par for the course.
