Editor’s Note: Live Action works to maintain the highest standards of journalistic integrity. Live Action has looked into key elements of Ms. Christie’s testimony and personal story and has found them to be credible.

On February 25th, a proud mother shared her fourth son and fifth child’s birth story on Facebook in a video. But his story isn’t just any birth story. Viewers meet Jennifer and her husband Jeff, then their daughter and three sons, learning of their life together. “They worked. They played. They laughed and hugged. They worshipped. They fought sometimes. They were happy.” But that’s when the expected storyline changes, because this is Jennifer Christie’s story of the conception and birth of her five-year-old son Josh, who was conceived in rape.

The video tells of Jennifer traveling on a business trip during a cold, grey winter, then the video shows the words, “A bad man saw the mommy and decided to hurt her.” The video describes how the family came together through the pain, that “they worked, but they didn’t play so much anymore,” because “they had lost their happy.” The words are so simple, yet the viewer feels the depths of despair and pain behind them.  Then, the story surprises again.

“One wonderful, magical day, the mommy found out that something good happened when the bad man attacked her…. The mommy was going to have a baby – a beautiful, perfect baby.” Even in the womb, the new baby brings anticipation and excitement to the whole family. “Winter bled into spring, and the mommy’s tummy grew full and round. The daddy kissed it and whispered to the growing baby that he would be his daddy. And he loved him. Their daughter and the sons were relieved to see the mommy smile again.”

The story goes on to say how “Joshua was a special gift. He healed them. It didn’t matter how he came to be, he was THEIRS. All theirs…. And they are complete. THE END.”

Live Action has reported here, here, here, here, and here, among other times, on various aspects of Jennifer and her husband’s experience. This poignant new video by Jennifer makes crystal clear that the circumstances of a person’s conception have no bearing on the tremendous beauty and infinite value of that person’s life, and that unimaginable good can come from unspeakable horror.

People who have heard Jennifer’s story seemed to think that “there is something magnificent in a mother from rape loving her child. Some extraordinary feat of strength or courage required to dote on them so.” But Jennifer says, “There isn’t…. [L]oving the soul that grew to the music of your heartbeat from the inside is all kinds of beautiful… and all kinds of natural.”

May Joshua’s story give courage and grace to all mothers facing similar circumstances.
