In the wake of the Wisconsin State Senate passing a ban on abortion at twenty weeks by a 19-14 vote, the state chapter of the National Organization for Women has announced plans to march on the governor’s mansion tomorrow afternoon, June 17.
The press release says that Wisconsin NOW and NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin, prominent abortion-advocacy groups, will be marching alongside the International Socialist Organization, a self-proclaimed Marxist-Leninist group whose intense opposition to capitalist nations has manifested in suggesting that the September 11 hijackers were made “open to terrorism as a means to avenge their oppression” by their “lifetimes of humiliation” by Western nations.
The three organizations plan to wear “paper hospital gowns to request medical care from Governor Scott Walker,” who has pledged to sign the bill, as a symbol that his pro-life stance means “he believes he is a women’s health expert.”
“This extremist, unconstitutional legislation,” Wisconsin NOW said in a statement, “will lead to unnecessary difficulty, suffering, and health risks for many Wisconsin women facing very personal medical decisions, as well as lead to the criminalization of doctors who prioritize the lives and health of women.”
The press release also claims the bill’s basis on fetal pain “flies directly in the face of sound scientific and medical research,” although a recent piece for Live Action News by James Agresti finds nearly a dozen medical journals indicating fetuses can feel pain at or before twenty weeks.
