Planned Parenthood: We will only give you an ultrasound if you want an abortion

Planned Parenthood continues to perpetuate the myth that it offers the comprehensive healthcare women need, not simply abortions. A new Live Action video, released in the Planned Parenthood: The Abortion Corporation investigation, further proves that the abortion chain exists primarily to commit abortions — not to care for women in their pregnancies.

In the new video, “Ultrasounds Only for Abortions at Planned Parenthood,” women trying to schedule ultrasounds at various Planned Parenthood facilities nationwide are told repeatedly that the only way they are getting an ultrasound from the abortion corporation is if they are doing as as part of the abortion procedure.

Of the 68 Planned Parenthood facilities either called or visited, only three were able to provide diagnostic ultrasounds for pregnant women. The other 65 Planned Parenthood centers said, in no uncertain terms, that if a woman was getting an ultrasound from Planned Parenthood, it was only if the woman was terminating her pregnancy:

Farmington, NM Planned Parenthood employee:  “Oh, we won’t be able to tell you if it’s healthy or the gender… If you’re, you know – we specialize in abortions. You know, that’s what our ultrasounds are for, to see how far along the, um, patient is.”

Cornell, NY Planned Parenthood employee: “We tell you you’re pregnant, and then we offer at Planned Parenthood to do the abortions… We only do ultrasounds if you are terminating.”

Winston-Salem, NC Planned Parenthood employee:  “…that’s [abortion] the only service that we do. We don’t do any prenatal care or adoption here.”

As with the recently released Prenatal Care Deception video, Planned Parenthood once again shows that its claims about being a necessary healthcare provider for women are false claims. The chief “service” that the abortion corporation cares about is its abortion business.

Planned Parenthood’s own website explains that ultrasounds are part of routine prenatal care — care that women need. Its website, however, doesn’t tell women that they will need to go elsewhere to receive that necessary care. The facilities featured in Live Action’s new investigative video again show the real mission of Planned Parenthood: abortion. As Live Action notes:

Live Action’s “Abortion Corporation” investigation shows that Planned Parenthood is focused on pushing profitable abortions, often at the expense of health care services for the women it claims to serve.

Planned Parenthood’s own numbers show that it performs less than two percent of U.S. women’s cancer screenings, zero mammograms, and offers virtually no prenatal care for women who want to keep their babies. Its solution for helping women to adopt instead of abort is to tell them to search for adoption services on the Internet. Yet, Planned Parenthood has the largest market share of any abortion chain in the country at over 30 percent.

Once again, Planned Parenthood shows that abortion is why the corporation exists. The latest video in this series only hammers home the reality of the abortion focus. Live Action’s investigation continues to present a clear case for defunding the abortion corporation. In releasing that taxpayer money to other government-funded healthcare centers, women who need actual prenatal care will then be able to receive it. Currently, Planned Parenthood’s place on the government tab is only allowing the abortion provider greater revenue to continue its abortion business, while keeping women with genuine healthcare needs from receiving care not associated with abortion.

Planned Parenthood’s tagline is “Care. No matter what.” But if that line continued, it would have to say, “unless you plan to continue your pregnancy and need prenatal care, including diagnostic ultrasounds. Then we don’t care. No matter what.”
