Along with her appointment of handpicked Democrats to the House Select Committee to Investigate Planned Parenthood, Nancy Pelosi has given the committee a new name: “Select Committee to Attack Women’s Health.” How creative, to rely on the same “war on women” meme that has been failing for a number of years.
What’s not so creative is the people she’s chosen to represent Democrats on the House panel: Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), Diana DeGette (D-CO), Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), Jackie Speier (D-CA), Suzan DelBene (D-WA), and Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ).
Planned Parenthood was the top contributor to three of these House members’ political campaigns in 2014: Jan Schakowsky, Diana DeGette, and Suzan DelBene…
Jerrold Nadler and Jan Schakowsky were on a short list of representatives who requested that the Center for Medical Progress – not Planned Parenthood – be investigated, following the release of the pro-life group’s undercover videos in July. Nadler is also on record as being in favor of partial-birth abortion.
Jackie Speier is also on the list of recipients of Planned Parenthood campaign cash, despite the fact that she’s the wealthiest of all House members, with a net worth of over $10 million. (Perhaps Speier was a little out of touch, then, when she claimed that, like herself, women would never think of aborting in the second trimester for anything other than very serious or medical reasons. Oops.)
Speier seized upon Pelosi’s new committee name on social media, making it clear that she and her colleagues have zero intention of actually investigating anything:
Now that they have in their possession the entirety of the undercover videos from the Center for Medical Progress (bathroom breaks and all), Planned Parenthood’s supporters in Congress are still claiming the videos were somehow manipulated – yet most of the Democrats selected for the committees haven’t even watched them (including the House Minority leader herself). And despite Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman’s misleading statements in her discussion with Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards at the last congressional panel, two forensic analyses have shown the videos to be free of any audio manipulation whatsoever (so much for putting words in the mouths of abortionists). But apparently, none of that matters.
Oddly, the pervasive attitude of Planned Parenthood’s political supporters seems to be that the House has no business investigating an entity which receives half a billion in taxpayer dollars annually, because investigating would be a waste of taxpayer dollars.
Do Planned Parenthood’s political donations to its supporters in Congress negate the need for accountability? Do its political donations negate the need to follow federal law?
The answer to this, according to Pelosi’s group of committee appointees, appears to be ‘yes.’ Because the recorded comments from abortion industry and Planned Parenthood professionals on making enough money from trafficking fetal body parts to one day buy a Lamborghini, on ‘converting to breech’ to better obtain those body parts, on using ultrasound guidance to strategically ‘crush’ only the body parts they don’t need, on harvesting ‘fresh’ gonads from aborted baby boys, on cutting through the face of an aborted boy whose heart was still beating in order to harvest his brain… none of it means anything. It’s all just a fabricated “attack” and “war on women’s healthcare.”
Allegations of the breaking of federal law by illegally manipulating abortion procedures don’t merit investigation. Allegations of the illegal sale of fetal body parts don’t merit investigation. Allegations of the cover-up of child sexual abuse and of lying to women before their abortions don’t merit investigation. None of it merits investigation to Planned Parenthood’s friends in high places, who are willing to cover their ears and eyes so they can accept Planned Parenthood’s campaign donations and still sleep at night.
Expect the Democrats on the upcoming committee to do the same thing that the Democrats on previous committees have done: deflect.
Because ignorance is bliss.
