Report: Dangerous abortionist uses other doctors as ‘pawns’ to keep his business going

Pro-life watchdog group Operation Rescue reports that the dangerous late-term abortionist Steven Chase Brigham is manipulating the system once again, this time initiating a second “sale” of a New Jersey abortion facility for $1 so he can continue operating it without a license.

Known as a conman, Brigham has a long history of shady practices, injuries to women, and botched abortions. He also seems to show a penchant for scamming medical boards into believing he isn’t in control of the abortion facilities he is actually running.

Brigham lied about his training in abortion, and the New York Medical Board said he “repeatedly exaggerated his medical training and skill” and “he lacks appropriate judgment and insight to his own limitations.” He was charged with murder in 2011 after viable babies were found to have been killed in an illegal secret abortion facility in Elkton, Maryland — a state in which he does not and has never had a license. The charges were eventually dropped but in 2014, his New Jersey medical license was revoked after a woman almost died from complications of her abortion. The case revealed his late-term abortion scam in which he was beginning the abortions in New Jersey and then carting the women to Maryland for the abortion to be completed.

In all, Brigham has lost or surrendered his medical license in six states, but instead of suspending his work as an abortionist, he simply manipulated the system and continued to run abortion businesses under the guise of selling them off to someone else.

One of those facilities is American Women’s Services in New Jersey. According to Operation Rescue, it is illegal for people without a medical license to own a medical facility in the state, so when he lost his medical license, Brigham set into motion a plan to keep the facility. He transferred ownership to his medical director Vikram Kaji, an abortionist with his own troubled past, including sexual misconduct with patients. But the ownership transfer only occurred on paper. Brigham still retained control of the facility despite his lack of license.

Then, in the spring of 2019, Kaji had a stroke that left him with physical and intellectual disabilities. As a result, he had to surrender his medical license in the state of New Jersey. Brigham now needed a new frontman, so Kaji “sold” the abortion facility to abortionist Richard H. Blum for the price of $1, according to a Bill of Sale obtained by Operation Rescue. Brigham, however, is still the man in charge.

“We believe that Brigham uses these people as pawns to keep his income stream coming in from his abortion businesses.  They go on the paperwork, but he always maintains control,” said Troy Newman, president of Operation Rescue.

American Women’s Services is just one of the abortion facilities at which Brigham has run this scam. In 2010 he used 88-year-old abortionist George Shepard at his secret late-term abortion facility in Maryland, naming him as the medical director despite the fact that Shepard told the Maryland Board of Physicians that he was unable to physically conduct abortions himself due to his limited physical abilities. Brigham, however, was not licensed in the state and needed to use Shepard’s name as a cover.

In 2013, Brigham opened an abortion facility in Philadelphia despite the fact that in 2010, the state of Pennsylvania had ordered that he never own or have an affiliation with an abortion facility in that state. Brigham used abortionist Eric Yahav as his cover until he was discovered and the state shut down the facility.

In 2017, Brigham opened a late-term facility in D.C., this time using elderly abortionist Myron Rose as his cover. Though Rose died in July, the website for the facility continues to use his name.

Brigham and his latest frontman, Blum, have worked together in the past. Blum’s name can be found in a complaint that helped lead to the removal of Brigham’s New Jersey medical license. Blum himself has received a plethora of bad reviews on RateMD.com that say he is “insensitive and impatient,” “cruel,” a “horrible human being,” and “incompetent.”

Despite the name on the paperwork, Brigham and his band of inept “doctors” apparently continue to run a giant abortion scheme that continues to kill viable children and put patients’ lives at risk. It’s time Brigham is shut out of the industry for good.
