Video captured by a family’s Ring security camera of an Amazon delivery driver has gone viral – for a good reason. The driver was caught pausing to pray for the family’s 8-month-old baby boy, Lucas, who is at high risk from complications that could occur due to a heart condition if he were to contract COVID-19.

“I just wanted to share a sweet moment we caught on video,” mom Raquel Pearson said in a local COVID-19 Facebook group. “We have a sign on our door thanking delivery personnel for bringing us our supplies because we have an infant with medical needs. Our Amazon driver dropped off our package, read our note, and prayed for our boy before heading out.”

Pearson’s husband Derek said that doctors have warned them that Lucas would be at high risk for respiratory problems if he were to contract COVID-19 and they are doing everything they can to protect him, including having all of their food and supplies delivered.

“He needs special thickeners to be able to eat, otherwise he aspirates his milk, so we really depend on getting all of these supplies online so we don’t have to go out to the store and bring the virus home,” Pearson told WTHR. “We just want to minimize exposure to coronavirus.”

In the video, the driver, Monica Salinas, can be seen making the Sign of the Cross and bowing her head after noticing the sign on the door which read: “Thank you for delivering our food and packages to us. We have an infant with medical needs and online deliveries are essential to his health. You are keeping our son alive and well. We are grateful to all who are on the front lines delivering to our family.”

Salinas said that when she paused to pray, she was simply doing what she felt called to do. “I just stopped to do what my heart told me to do, to say a prayer for the baby and for the parents, because that’s got to be very painful for all of them to see their baby hurt and struggle,” she said.

Pearson told KTVB that she noticed Salinas on the security camera when she was checking on the delivery of a package of medical supplies for Lucas. When she saw Salinas pray, she got “choked up,” saying she was “really touched” by the kind and prayerful actions of a stranger.

“I noticed that she was standing there, and I didn’t really realize what she was doing until I saw her doing the sign of the cross,” said Pearson. “I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, she was praying.”

After the video was shared on Facebook, people recognized Salinas and she reached out to the Pearsons. “People just started blowing us up like crazy,” she said. “They were like ‘Did you stop and pray at a house?’ and I was like ‘yeah!'”

The Pearsons say they hope everyone takes COVID-19 seriously to help protect people like Lucas. “I just wish they understood how scared we are as parents, and how scared other people are,” said Pearson. “We really depend on them doing their part as well.”
