Did Planned Parenthood staff break California law?
Yes. Planned Parenthood personnel are mandatory child abuse reporters according to California Penal Code Section 11164-11174.3 that states that the following health care professionals are mandatory reporters: “physician and surgeon, psychiatrist, psychologist, dentist, resident, intern, podiatrist, chiropractor, licensed nurse, dental hygienist, optometrist, marriage and family therapist, clinical social worker, professional clinical counselor, or any other person who is currently licensed under Division 2.”
Kathy Kneer, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California admitted to CNS News that they failed in their duty saying, “the staff gave an incorrect answer.” Kneer said Planned Parenthood has “notified all of our staff and reminded them that this is in violation of our policy, and we continue to do that on a regular basis.”
It is a misdemeanor crime under California for a mandatory reporter failing to report child sexual abuse.
