Planned Parenthood uses coronavirus pandemic to tout its own alleged ‘importance’

coronavirus, Planned Parenthood

With COVID-19, or the coronavirus, spreading rapidly, many are wondering how best to receive health care. With so many uncertainties, it’s perhaps not surprising that Planned Parenthood is rushing to exploit the situation, attempting to position itself as a legitimate health care provider once again.

Bustle featured an article this week explaining how Planned Parenthood is preparing for the coronavirus. The goal seemed to be to equate the abortion corporation with legitimate health care providers. “As the novel coronavirus continues to spread rapidly, health centers worldwide are racing to prepare. That includes Planned Parenthood,” Bustle author Emma McGowan wrote. “Though the organization is primarily known for providing sexual and reproductive health services, it’s also many people’s main point of contact with the health care system. That’s especially true for those with lower incomes: 79% of the nearly 3 million Americans served by Planned Parenthood every year are at or below 150% of the federal poverty level.”

Dr. Krishna Upadhya, senior medical adviser for Planned Parenthood, also spoke with Bustle about how Planned Parenthood is allegedly working to provide health care for people infected with the coronavirus. Yet what is Planned Parenthood’s grand plan for patients who come to them feeling sick?

“For people who are showing symptoms of COVID-19 — fever, cough, or shortness of breath — and who usually go to Planned Parenthood for primary care, Upadhya asks that they contact their local health department first and follow the steps they recommend,” McGowan wrote. “Your health department can help ensure you get the care you need without risking the health of others.”

Meanwhile, on social media, Planned Parenthood is busy trying to somehow make abortion relevant to the coronavirus. The Planned Parenthood Action Fund tweeted about the “health safety net” they provide, which is ostensibly being threatened by the Trump administration’s changed Title X requirements.

Alexis McGill Johnson, the acting president of Planned Parenthood, also released a statement slamming the Trump administration for not supporting Nancy Pelosi’s early version of the coronavirus stimulus package. As Live Action News reported, Pelosi allegedly tried to sneak abortion funding into that bill before the passage of a bill ensuring that abortions would not be paid for using coronavirus relief funding.

McGill Johnson wrote:

It is incredible that even during a World Health Organization-designated pandemic, the administration and anti-abortion politicians in Congress tried to delay and undermine this bill by pushing their dangerous anti-abortion, anti-reproductive health agenda. The Planned Parenthood Action Fund exists because politicians have played political football with access to sexual and reproductive health care like this for decades. We thank House leadership for rejecting extremism and focusing on the national crisis at hand.

Nevermind that taxpayer funding for abortion has nothing to do with stopping the coronavirus. McGill Johnson and her pro-abortion allies appear to be using the worldwide fear and panic of a pandemic to push their agenda.

Despite this attempt to play on people’s fears, Planned Parenthood is not a health care provider relied upon by millions and millions of Americans for primary care. The abortion giant’s latest annual report shows that the number of patients they see has continually been dropping, serving a mere 2.4 million Americans annually — that’s less than 1% of the American population. And Planned Parenthood’s 2018-2019 annual report showed that, once again, its legitimate health care services are still decreasing while its abortions are increasing.

Planned Parenthood is an abortion corporation, and it should not be using a worldwide crisis to lie to the public in an effort to give itself legitimacy and obtain more taxpayer funding.

Editor’s note: The original article incorrectly stated that Planned Parenthood served less than 0.1% of the American population. It has been corrected to read 1%.
