Nancy Pelosi ridicules pro-life Christians: “they have this conscience thing”

Nancy Pelosi has a bone to pick with pro-life Christians, because “they have this conscience thing.”[1]

The Protect Life Act is being bashed upside and down by Nancy Pelosi, a full-fledged supporter of abortion in ObamaCare. The Protect Life Act stipulates that abortion coverage in health insurance is a matter of an individual or of local government, not federal. Purchase of separate abortion insurance is not to be funded by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), which would use federal funding to pay for abortion. Companies selling abortion coverage plans must also offer an identical plan that excludes abortion. Medical practitioners or health care entities cannot be discriminated due to their refusal to practice or provide for abortions. This bill protects the citizens’ conscience rights, especially those of Christian doctors and health-care providers who will shut down rather than provide abortions. The Protect Life Act will potentially save the lives of many unborn children, as well as sustaining the freedoms of America’s people.[2]

Nancy Pelosi, however, doesn’t see the situation in that light. She states, “When the Republicans vote for this bill today, they will be voting to say that women can die on the floor and health-care providers do not have to intervene, if this bill is passed. It’s just appalling.”[3]

What is truly appalling is Pelosi’s analysis of the bill. The Act will shield the rights of health-care providers to provide the health care they deem healthy from the interference of the government. These health-care providers will not be letting women “die on the floor.” Women are free to choose their insurance company. In addition, many pro-life doctors offer services free of charge to pregnant women. It would also be well to recognize the fact that only about 0.2% of abortions are done to save the life of the woman. [4]

Nevertheless, Pelosi’s above-mentioned gross exaggeration is not the only offense. She also professes, “I’m a devout Catholic and I honor my faith and love it… but they have this conscience thing.”[5] Pelosi cannot be a faithful, practicing Catholic Christian if she mocks the dignity of unborn children and the right of every man, woman, and child to act according to their conscience.

To add a bright red cherry to her sundae of ironies, Pelosi seems to think that abortion somehow benefits children. “Pelosi kept talking right through the last bell for a mid-afternoon vote, but before dashing out at the last possible minute, she flashed a thumbs-up: ‘Child care,’ she said. ‘We’re going to do it.’”[6]

Is she actually referring to abortion as child-care?! This is pushing the envelope. The fact is over a fifth of our American children are being murdered. This does not equal child-care. Abortion is child-abuse – to the maximum.

Nancy Pelosi may have full knowledge of what she is promoting, or simply be blind to the facts. Regardless of what her condition is, her comments are taking this too far. Let’s pray that she, as well as Obama & Co., snap out of it, and that the Protect Life Act is passed.
