I survived an abortion at Planned Parenthood. Twice.

God’s promise of life is such a sacred miracle. No one understands that more than me, having escaped death from Planned Parenthood. Twice.

One sound changed everything

My story begins with a teenager named Trish. At just 16 short years of life, she found herself in a Planned Parenthood patient room pondering the decisions that led to her being in that space — she was a foster care runaway, an addict battling the use of heroin and methamphetamines, and a willing participant in statutory rape.

An abortionist there met with her before a D&C abortion to rid her womb of the three-month pregnancy. It was to be “a new start,” Planned Parenthood promised.

They had made this promise to her once before, when she attempted to expel the unwanted child (me) from her body using the abortion pills that had failed her.

A probe was placed inside of her to check on the baby prior to the procedure, when — in a fatal blow to the abortion decision — a heartbeat was heard in the room.

By the mercy of God, the volume had not been turned off on the ultrasound monitor, and Trish heard her daughter’s heartbeat for the first time. Her child’s personhood was finally acknowledged through this simple sound.

It did not take long for this young woman, a child herself, to walk out of that clinic, saving her baby from the indescribable pain of dismemberment.

Spared for a purpose

Had my birthmother’s abortion been successful I would be a repressed secret in her life bringing her shame and hidden pains. Or worse, a celebrated death under the guise of “her body, her choice.”

I like to tell people that God ordained me from conception to be a pro-life advocate; He knows each of us in our mothers’ wombs and knits us together with purpose built directly into the fibers of our being.

His handprints are in every part of my journey — saving me in the womb, identifying the family who would adopt me in a rare voluntary planned placement, and igniting within me the undeniable realization that my life was spared for a purpose.

This purpose became clear to me during my schooling years.

When I was in middle school, I was told by my principal that I could not receive God’s love until I reconciled with the family He intended for me to be with — and that my adoption was preventing me from receiving salvation.

At that time, my adoptive mom was serving as the executive director of a local adoption agency, where I was able to speak as an ambassador to parents who were in the post-adoption classes.

When I was in high school, I was denied the ability to start an adoption awareness club — while a Planned Parenthood club operated.

In college, I received a D- on an English essay that stated the “real pro-choice” was adoption. The reason for the poor grade? “Your essay was beautifully written, but I can’t agree with your hateful words against abortion.”

How do you make the world see that you walk around every day fully understanding that the one person who God designed to keep you safe tried to snuff out your life?

How do you explain to people that you live with question marks while they live with periods?

How do you tear the veil from the eyes of those who believe you should be dead — discarded as limbs in a bucket?

The Bible says even faith the size of a mustard seed can move mountains. At five weeks in the womb a baby is the size of a mustard seed.

It is also at five weeks that most women find out they are pregnant, and would be immediately eligible to take the abortion pill. The lies of abortion are stealing from the world the mustard seeds that God planted!

Through the terrors

This year, the “My Body-My Voice” initiative was launched — and my voice is my story. I have lived through the terrors of abortion.

It is because of this I am able to speak up on behalf of the ⅓ of my generation that has been mercilessly murdered.

It is because of this I have been able to experience falling in love and getting married, and being part of a beautiful family from the age of three months.

It is because of this I am able to work for Turning Point USA and be proud as a conservative, Christian, and pro-lifer — all beautiful qualities my adoptive family instilled in me.

But so much more than all of this, living through abortion has taught me that no one is ever too far gone to be saved or to make a selfless choice to save a pregnancy.

Trish, my birthmother, was among the most broken a person could get, even after my adoption placement.

The next child she birthed, a baby girl, was abandoned on the floor of a bar bathroom and lived through unspeakable evils in her foster home. The baby boy born after her died of malnourishment during Trish’s homelessness.

When I met Trish in my early adulthood, my own veil was torn to see she wasn’t the perfect martyr my childhood eyes had envisioned her to be. Yet, as imperfect and lost as she was and had been, God used her to save me.

When she passed away in 2024, she had tearfully apologized to me for trying to kill me. No child should ever have to hear those words from a parent figure.

No child should have to know

I have lived long enough to see Roe v. Wade overturned. I am on the cusp of living long enough to see One Big Beautiful Bill defund Planned Parenthood. Living in a world where no child should have to know what the word “abortion” is, is a step closer each day.

Abortion will never be the answer, but the more we are able to liberate and uplift the women who have been victims of these lies, the more we will see life win.

My adoption saved me from multi-generational curses of substance abuse, alcoholism, gang affiliation, teenage pregnancy, and criminal records. That is no coincidence; that is God’s intervention. If anything can break the shackles of abortion’s lies and pain, it’s that kind of intervention and faith that is woven through my testimony.

Abortion will end in my lifetime, and I will never stop fighting for the millions of families who deserve the joy of giving life.
