Pro-abortion man vandalizes pro-life group’s display on UCLA campus

Justice for All, UCLA

On May 20, a young man wearing a UCLA sweatshirt and UCLA Law hat vandalized pro-life signs with black spray paint on the university’s campus. Members of the pro-life group Justice For All recorded the incident and posted footage on the group’s Instagram account.

KEY TAKEAWAYS:

  • Live Action at UCLA, the university’s pro-life student club, invited Justice For All to campus to spark dialogue with students.
  • During the event, a young man wearing UCLA gear began vandalizing pro-life signs, spray painting over the images and words.
  • This is the second time this student has acted out against pro-lifers on UCLA’s campus, but he has yet to be located.

THE DETAILS:

According to Rebekah Dyer, a staff member with Justice For All, this is the second time this same person has acted out against the pro-life group. In 2023, he stole signs but was never caught.

“A UCLA student vandalized our signs with spray paint,” the group said on Instagram. “He also stole four of our signs in 2023, and has yet to be found by police. If anyone knows who this is, DM us. A police report has been filed, and we will press charges both for the theft and for the vandalism.”

Dyer commented on the post, saying, “We have his picture and videos of that crime. Now he’s vandalizing signs this year. When will this stop?”

In the video, a young woman appeared to ask Justice For All their purpose for being on campus. “Do you want to explain to me why you think this is productive or useful?” the unidentified woman asked.

In response, a young man, not seen on video, told her if she wanted them off campus, she could call the cops for trespassing.

The video showed Justice For All’s poster boards that displayed preborn babies in the womb and asked the question, “When are we human?”

The pro-life organization Justice For All was invited to UCLA by the school’s student pro-life club, Live Action UCLA, to host an event aimed at opening dialogue between pro-life and pro-abortion students, The College Fix reported.

“Thankfully, most pro-choice people are not like this,” Justice For All said in its post. “They are respectful and willing to dialogue and wouldn’t think to do something like this.”

It continued, “Most of our outreaches are peaceful, and we are able to have respectful conversations with those on the other side. Sometimes that’s not the case though. We care about this student which is why we want him held accountable. This behavior is unacceptable.”

THE BOTTOM LINE:

Vandalism and violence against pro-lifers have been on the rise since May 2022, when the draft decision of the Supreme Court’s ruling on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization was leaked.

According to Catholic Vote, nearly 100 attacks have been carried out against pro-life organizations since the potential overturning of Roe v. Wade became public knowledge. Last July, FBI Director Christopher Wray told the House Judiciary Committee, “[S]ince the Dobbs decision, actually more of our abortion-related violent extremism investigations have focused on violence against pro-life facilities as opposed to the other way around.”
