Reading this article from Community Television of Southern California made me ponder a bunch of things about Planned Parenthood
Let’s start by giving them the benefit of the doubt.
First, I try to see what kind of insurance they take. Their websites make it look that not all take insurance. Most only take Cash, Credit and Debit Cards and Medicaid.
Let’s see. After Googleing: “Planned Parenthood Emergency Room” the results came only with “Emergency Contraception” and One PP located at the west side of Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield.
Well, maybe if someone shows up with an emergency situation: broken leg, heart attack they might be able to help?
Maybe not.
None of the centers I searched with actual surgical rooms were equipped for real emergencies. Not even the Houston’s Center.
I am thinking now. Maybe they meant preventative health.
So I looked again at Google and see what they offered.
The closest thing was “Women’s Health Checkups”. Meaning, “From the waist down”, Since I couldn’t find a specific center that offered mammograms on site.
Fair enough, an abnormal Pap will clearly be scary on itself. So far Houston offers colposcopies.
Then what if they find HPV. Will they cure me? Do they offer Cryotherapy or LEEP?

After that, if your test result is positive, they recommend finding a Planned Parenthood Health Center that treats HPV, but they don’t say which one:

Fine. Let’s move on.
So far I couldn’t find a center that offered eye exams, arthritis treatments, thyroid diseases, or stroke risk. Or even assessed the patient’s health for heart attack risk. And that is a problem, since my body is comprised of more organs besides my reproductive ones. (And I need each and everyone functioning correctly).
Seems they don’t cover these services, which heart attacks are pretty much something you go to the emergency room for. Then, they might not be telling the whole truth.
OK, maybe they don’t have general practitioners in staff. But at least an RN that might dispense basic vaccination? or antibiotics?
Antibiotics, only for Chlamydia and other venereal diseases. And the only vaccines they offer are Hep A, B and Gardasil. And that was at PP of the Rockies.
You know, for a College town, I’d be more worried about contracting Meningitis in Campus. I guess they don’t care if your brain swells. Maybe they will refer you to a nearby hospital. I wonder if they will be so kind as to call an ambulance for you. Maybe you should Google their neglect history for this one.
Last, in honor of the truth they are all about Reproductive Care.
Then, how come Google did not showed up a meaningful result for “Planned Parenthood Delivery Room”.
I mean, giving Birth to Live Babies IS a Reproductive Choice.
Maybe I should try Bing next time…
